For those that are just joining, I bought one of the cheap ELM327 Bluetooth adaptors off Amazon. While it allowed me to connect and navigate the system, it did not allow me to change any settings. Specifically I tried enabling my DRLs and on each setting I got an error basically that no data was transferred. So I ordered the correct adaptor that’s mentioned in the first post.

I’ll also assume that I need my RF code to be able to change some settings. Since I’m working tonight I’ll try to read the rest of the thread to see if I missed something.

Just read through this thread and haven’t noticed anyone that has tried the Police option under special vehicles. I’m curious if that will give us access to having control of our cluster lighting brightness with the dimmer when the headlights are off. As it is now the cluster is at max brightness and will blind you at night.

Anyone that has a ram with oem projectors, can you test something for me?
On the settings were you can turn on a single headlight or tail light, can you see if you can activate the headlight high beam solenoid with the Alfa software?
I converted my headlight harness from oem quad to oem projector and when I turn my high beams on, the projector solenoid doesn’t activate.

Thanks

I have factory projectors and I can turn the high beams on with the test functions in AlphaOBD, but I'm not sure what you mean by solenoid?

I did a post recently in this thread with a list of all the test functions that worked on my truck, the specific test names are there.

I believe the solenoid is the shutter for the high beams and yes there is a test for left and right. Haven’t tried it myself but have seen it.

Ah. There was a conversation somewhere on the forum recently about that and I'm fairly certain that the conclusion was that neither the high or low beams on the factory projectors have shutters. The high beam is a simple reflector with no moving parts and the low beam projector lens also has none. A number of people who have disassembled the lights to upgrade or repair parts chimed in on the subject. If that's correct then the shutter test would fall into the "function for a different vehicle that uses the same BCM" category that we see a bunch of in Alpha.

I meant the low beam shutter. Mine came off a 16’ Laramie and they have a shutter that drops when the high beams are off. When engaging the high beams it raises.

Hmm.... Now I'm going to have to go take another look at mine. They are the factory '14 Sport/Express models that came on the truck.

Just came back in from trying to take a pic of the shutter movement when selecting "high beam" to run the test. Impossible to see but at night I should be able to cover the high beams then engage them. You will notice the defined line of the projector is gone from the low beams. You can actually hear the shutter move when running the 10sec test.

I just got back in from my own check and while I can hear a noise from the headlights when I turn on the high beams with the normal in-truck controls that I presume is the shutter moving (so much for that other thread on the subject) I can't get the test function to work. Regardless of whether the lights are on low beam or high beam and regardless of whether the truck is running or just with the key in "run-engine-off" position, I get the "Failed - Condition Not Correct or Request Sequence Error" message on both the "Right High Beam Shutter" and "Left High Beam Shutter" tests. This is on a 2014 with factory projectors using the latest Android version of AlphaODB (2.1.3.1) connected to the MY2013-17 Body Computer and using an OBDLink MX dongle.

Mine was in run-engine-off position with everything off and in the first drop down menu of the BCM. Same page as program customer features (but not in program customer features). I did not try right or left high beam shutter. I knew I had seen shutter somewhere but I doubt it will work. The shutters are on the low beams, not sure if that makes a difference or not. I was testing by triggering high beam left and high beam right to get the solenoid to move.

I had figured out that the shutters were in the low beam, but I was working on the theory that "High Beam Shutter" meant "The shutter in the low beam that moves when the high beams are turned on". I'll check again after work and see if I hear any noises when I use the High Beam test sequence. It should be getting dark by then and somewhat easier to see the results.

Ok, did some more testing. I swiped your idea @Ghost_RAM and covered the high beam with a rag so I could see the cutoff on the low beam. There is definitely a shutter in there and it moves when the high beams are activated from the normal controls but it does not activate when I use the High Beam test in Alpha.

Nice pics. The projector headlights On high beams, the actual high beam bulb turns on and the projector shutter opens up.
Sorta like double high beam.

I had factory quads, but I removed the entire headlight, for light, wiper motor, active shutter harnesss and changed it to an oem projector one and i have the following issues.
The high beam shutter doesn’t open no matter what I do (only the high beam bulb turns on) and I have a front turn signal out on the left and right side if I hit the signal with the headlights on.
If the lights are completely off and I hit the signal, it’s fine.

I believe 00R/T did this swap but he got it to work on his truck.

So I am jumping on board with this thread because I want to activate the DRL in my 2014.

I am asking just to be sure... following the procedure pinned in the google drive is all I need to do?

Essentially yes, the lows stay on with the highs and get a little more unobstructed.

Can't really help you with everything else. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.

Should be, yes. There are a few other 14' trucks out there that have done the same thing.

I have a 2014 and as Ghost-RAM stated that should be all you need to do to activate your DRL's. I have done my truck and another 2014 and they work fine.

Well I just tried the 2 settings mentioned in my prior post (#812). I set both KEYLESS GO and PASSIVE ENTRY. It gave me a screen with the picture of a pushbutton with a message advising to step on the brake and push the button to start upon entering the vehicle with the remote. And just like OEM if you do not put the remote in the vehicle the screen tells you "FOB NOT DETECTED". Once the fob is inside the cab then it will start. So the only change with these 2 settings is the "new" screen telling me to step on the brake and push the button. I did not have that screen previously. There was NO warning chime after shutting down and turning the ignition off, I could lock and close the door and did not get that horn warning and the door lock automatically unlocking on its own which I believe happens in OEM pushbutton trucks.

So if anyone has an idea just what setting is needed please post up.

mjf6175...still waiting for my obdlink to show up. Was looking at Mpgrimm2's BCM text file and there's a setting called "FOBIK Safe Enable". That looks like what needs activated to keep the doors from locking with the FOB inside. Did a search on the term and a Cherokee owners manual came up. Unfortunately, it said that the FOBIK safe feature only works on vehicles with passive entry. If that statement applies to Rams, we may be out of luck.

But it shouldn't hurt to find the setting and see what happens. Let me know.
