FCA uses pretty much the same data bus in most of the American vehicles they sell. The differences are more location and connector related. If it plugs in to the data bus, the OBD connection is an industry standard. Not really that complex TBH.

I understand all that but this is a brand new truck and it's not mine so of course I'm a little hesitant even though I know it should be identical.

I tried to enable DRL without the bypass, it didn't work. It acted like it would but couldn't actually write anything to the BCM.

Maybe that's what I remember seeing and didn't catch any follow ups

I'm pretty sure on cummins forum I had seen a couple say that they didn't. I'm skimming through to see if I find it or if I'm confusing it with something else. I never tried on my 18 to see if anything worked or not before installing the bypass

I've been able to make probably 20+ changes to the BCM and RF hub in my 2018 with the help of this thread and all the people who have posted here. One of the first things I learned was on a 2018, no bypass = no access to the BCM due the addition of the 2018 FCA security module located in the dash behind the radio. Got my bypass from M2Mods and it's perfect

That's where I purchased mine from also. That's what I had seen from day 1 I started following the alphaobd thread. Maybe I just remember people saying that they were going to try or had tried and never caught the update on their failure

Hey guys. Tried the search but didn’t find anything. I am putting a new abs module in and would like to know if there is a way to use Alfa Obd to reprogram the module to my vin. Otherwise it’s a $45 charge at the dealer so not a big deal but a penny saved is a penny earned. Any links or methods will be very appreciated! Thanks-Daikon

Im not quite sure an ABS module needs to be married to a VIN. The service manual doesnt mention anything about that, but there might be a procedure that needs to be run to bleed the air from it.

New module comes in on Tuesday so I guess we will see then for sure. Dealer sure made it sound like they wanted some more of my money when I went in for condenser evac and refill

I have never replaced the ABS module on a newer Ram but I have replace several on other cars and it is a very straightforward and simple process and no programming was required. In most cases the ABS module attaches to the ABS pump when the module is replaced the actual ABS pump does not need to be bled because it does not need to be removed.

They may have been referring to the abs module needing initialized, which the alfa can do.

$45.00! What dealership? I'm going to move there.

In guessing that is on top of their already inflated prices. Or it's a scare tactic so they went go anywhere else (only the dealer can program it! Yeah right)

Based on reading all through this: Android vs PC seems to be a personal preference?

I have an amazon Fire and a Windows Tablet (Microsoft Surface)....so I'm debating on if I should get the Android or PC version. Both are very portable and have WiFi for when I get the OBDLink MX and security cable.

Is it only personal preference then?
So if you like to use android, but want a larger screen such as a laptop, you can download software called BlueStacks4 and it works as an android interface on a windows computer. https://www.bluestacks.com

Has anyone used Alfa on a Chromebook? Curious if it works even though it's technically not android... Some Chromebook have access to the play store like any other Androud device

Good to know...I dont mind using it on my phone, but a Chromebook size screen would be even better, especially for data watching/logging.
