I bought the modified light pre-made from the RAX Jailbreaker folks 4 years ago.

I paid $80 (it's gone up ALOT) then but you can get cheaper options on Amazon now for the pre-made housing like this:

3rd Brake Light Replacement Backup Camera for 2013-2017 Dodge Ram Trucks https://amazon.com/dp/B01MQJWZ9V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NCTnEbT16QGTY
Does anyone have the OEM part number for the LED CHMSL with the camera? I can't seem to find the actual part number and the only place I really see it for sale is Infotainment.com for a hefty price...

Where’s the best place to get the security module bypass? And just to confirm for a 2018 Ram, that module is up under the dash, under the steering column, correct?

As was stated by someone else there are guys on here that make it...this is one of them.

So what do you do when it’s time to take the truck to the dealer for a recall, or whatever else? Would you leave all of this thing hooked up?

Since I don’t think I’d really have a whole lot that I need to change, would it be OK to just leave the original OBDII receptacle in its slot on the kick panel and just tie up the new OBDII port that’s part of the security bypass cable? Does those green and white plugs that the guy talks about in the video have to be unplugged from the modules before taking the truck in? Thanks.

I installed mine without removing the OEM connector from the mount. I have the harness connected under the dash and plugged into the OEM connector while it is still mounted. When I go to the dealer I just unplug the harness from that connector and push it all up under the steering wheel.

So if I were to go to the stealership I would unplug it / remove it....but otherwise I would leave it in place because I thought I would only change things once or so...but I’ve added / changed tons lol

And the only thing you have to “remove” is the obdII port to piggyback off of, the green and white plugs have open slots in the rail...you find any open one and plug it in (white to white side, green to green side

You’re talking about unplugging the white plug from the white module and the green plug from the green module, correct?

No, just unplug the harness adapter from the original OBD port. In other words leave the OEM exactly how it is, plug the white and green connections for the harness adapter and just plug the harness into the front of the existing OBD port like you would an adapter. Then you can just unplug the harness from that port and hide it under the dash, leaving the white and green still connected.

Oh OK. So in other words, deviating a little from what the instructions say, instead of actually removing the OEM OBDII receptacle from the kick panel and clipping the new one in from the security bypass cable in that spot, you’re just basically leaving the original OEM port attached to the kick panel and leaving the new port secured up under the dash, correct?

And the security bypass cable stays connected via the white and green connectors?

I just came up with this on my own, I didn't see any mention of this anywhere else.

Well, I’m not sure at all now to be honest with you what it was that I was being told along time ago when I was first curious about this thing, on where to go to bypass it because I could’ve sworn somebody told me that this bypass cable goes behind the big 8.4 radio… LOL

I guess one other question I should be asking- which I’m pretty sure I think I already know the answer to but can this system here be used as a code reader to check codes and erase codes off your computer? If so, I bought a fairly nice Bosch brand code reader from O’Reilly’s that I could probably get rid of to make way for this…

So I’m curious: why remove the bypass harness if going to dealer? It’s not used to tune the truck. Is what I did with alphaOBD illegal? What do I care if they know I’ve changed some settings?

Trying to figure out why I should remove it I guess....the downside of NOT removing it.

FCA is itching to void everyone's warranty. Regardless of what you use it for, my guess is they can find a way to make it a reason to deny warranty coverage (maybe only when you bring it it with it still plugged in, but maybe they note it in your file and use it down the road too)

True. I can see that point and it’s easier to not have that fight. It would be a huge stretch for them to prove me having my fogs on with high beams and adding DRLs made me have a mechanical issue or whatnot. But avoiding that fight to begin with would save time and hassle. Agreed.

Also don’t let them flash your BCM or it will erase everything you have done!!!

I wouldnt call it a stretch, considering they seem to love to apply "No CEL? No issue", even to mechanical things like rattles, shakes and vibrations......
