So, I know this topic comes up all the time. In my situation is adding the oem lsd or dtt worth the cash for my usage scenario? I am an old man (37), I drive slow am not going to lift or go bigger tires but...I do tow a 19.5' bass boat (around 4500#) weekly and I live in WV where the winters can be rough. I do have the kind of job that lets me stay home during foul weather but sometimes it shows up while I am already out and about.

I came out of a 2012 express with 3.55 and the factory LSD to this 2015 sport with 3.21 open diff. I was absolutely satisfied by all aspects of the performance of the 12 express, never had trouble pulling anything, anywhere and never even got close to getting hung up. I just want the same "experience" with this 2015 sport. Other than the boat ramp I do have to turn the boat around on a slight grade which is covered in grass but I have no qualms about using 4wd to pull out of this area if needed. So with that in mind, is the upgrade worth the cash? Thoughts?

If you have weather, yes. In snow, ice, bad rain even you get the one wheel peel. I live in Oklahoma, where I never thought weather would be an isue, but last 2 winters have proved my next truck, a LSD is a must.
For the cost, I dont see why they dont make it manditory, I mean GM has the G80 in almost all trucks.

Towing with open differential and the "4 auto" transfer case I would think could bring on possible problems on slippery surfaces when starting from a stand still and on an incline. Just my. 02

From what you described, you will be fine with an open diff. My old 2010 1500 was a 4x4 with an open diff and handled winter just fine.

It would be more of a "want" than "need" in your case.

LSD is a must for me on any truck...especially if you are driving up a slippery boat ramp.

so if it is a worthy upgrade to I stick to OEM parts by the dealer or do I go with the DTT? Will a dealer install a DTT or do I have to go to a different shop to have that done?

And to clarify I'm not so concerned about the 2wd performance as much as I may be concerned about the behavior of the open diff while in 4wd. I'm pretty good about staying within reasonable limits but my life experience has always been with an LSD this would be my first without. Thank you

I think it's definitely worth it. In all aspects, it's not that much of a cost upgrade when you compare it to wishing you had it and having to wait on someone/tow truck to pull you out of a predicament. Like Goose said, I live in Oklahoma and I'm very glad I had for this winter. It came in handy.

EDIT*** Trying to climb a wet, slippery boat ramp with a boat loaded up can be a bit tricky at times, as I'm sure you know. The LSD would definitely help with that. I've used a few boat ramps in my short time, and have spun tires several times trying to climb up it.

The DTT only works on the older 9.25 axle. The 2011-up trucks come with a 9.25 ZF, so I would go with the OEM unit. These list at $774 from Dodge, but we have them marked way down at only $499 with free shipping right now. You can see these at the link below...

I just did a canadian winter with a 4wd 3.92 open diff truck... and I didn't have any REAL problems. Putting it in 4 auto was plenty satisfactory for me, I bombed down snow covered highways and launched from red lights on hard pack without issue. You will not have an issue pulling your boat out, trust me.

I did just have an LSD installed but that's because I do have some power adders planned for this truck and quite frankly I want to leave two black lines. It was also free lol.

well I put a price request in with the dealer, I shall see if they respond. I had stalked moe's site already just was not sure of any warranty implications...is this just a straight installation as long as I am not trying to do any big time gear upgrades at the same time? I don't plan to keep the truck past the 3yr/36k mark so I guess it doesn't really matter. The next truck may be the keeper truck, idk yet, I do love this one

You would still have a full warranty on the unit if purchased through us as well because it is a brand new OEM part. If your dealership hits you with list pricing, you are looking at roughly $1000 in parts cost alone.
