I have a flowmaster muffler and CAI currently. It will cost me about $33 for a magnaflow y-pipe and about $40 to get it installed. Will I see any gains that justify the money spent? Thanks

someone else may be able to provide more info but from what I have researched, you're probably looking at a gain of 10 horsepower, maybe slightly less. The more mods you have, like a new throttle body, tuner etc, the more power gains the Y pipe will provide.

I know the stock Y pipe is horribly restricting. Hemi450hp told me in a PM that if you can get it welded on for less than $125 its worth it. So you can thank him for that info haha.

I personally am gonna be getting the Y pipe for my truck in a few weeks, at the same time as the Vararam air grabber. For that price, I'd say its definitely worth it. Thats a great deal on the price for welding.

When I had my y pipe welded on I didn't notice any gains, but that doesn't mean it's money wasted.

If it frees up 5hp you won't notice that alone. It could change your gas mileage too depending on how you drive.

I'd love to see dyno proof of 5-10HP with this mod alone. If it adds 1-2 you'll be lucky. Sure, the OE y is squished. However, in the end, it's all coming into a 3" pipe. If I could get it done for that cheap, I probably would still do it. They charged a fortune to weld my muffler in, so I won't even ask.

I think the post above calling the Y-pipe a 'complimentary gain" is the most accurate. If you get an 8-10hp gain from just that I'll drive my truck to the shop which did the work and pay them $10,000 to do it to mine LOL
It may present a gain in conjunction with other mods (namely exhaust) but on its own merit its one of those "smart" mods which don't net you much but act as part of a cohesive package which will show gains.

Same here, I was getting 15.3-15.6mpg around town before the y pipe was installed, and didn't see any change after.

I still feel better knowing that it's not as restricted anymore, even if it does nothing for performance.

So after more research, I can get the y-pipe for $35 after tax and $90 for install. So at $125 for the whole mod, should I do it?

Sounds like it would be worth it to me. Like other guys here have said, it'll make you other mods and future mods (if you have performance ones planned) more effective.

I don't have any other performance mods planned. Although I would like to get the 87mm TB from Moe's, I can not justify the price tag. So that leaves me with my S&B CAI, and flowmaster muffler.

Personally, I'd still do it because it would help out the airflow and the CAI at least some, but I don't have very much technical knowledge at all.

I would think you already have enough mods to make it worth it. Especially if one day down the road you do wind up picking up the 87mm TB.

One thing I forgot to ask about, will the magnaflow y-pipe change the sound of exhaust? I like the sound now and don't want it louder. That's why I got the 70 series flowmaster muffler.

I personally was told that it will make the tone deeper, and might make it slightly less loud at the same time. But I've heard differing opinions and don't have my Y pipe on yet, so i don't have any first hand experience to speak from.

Anyone else have first hand experience on how the Y pipe changes the exhaust note?

I had the same question few weeks ago and sent Matt at Moe's a Pm. If I had the pm I'd Copy and paste but I deleted. Let's see...he pretty much said that if your gonna have headers installed sometime in the future the y pipe will help you out, just like some posted above. With or without it now you won't see any performance gains. Will remove the restriction from the factory set up but you won't see any gains. He pretty much said if I'd get it installe for less than a $100 then go ahead but if not he wouldn't bother unless I was having my headers installed. Since my buddy owns an exhaust shop I went ahead and bought it, he pretty much installed it for 6'er and some lunch. Did change the tone of it slightly almost nothing. You really gotta listen to it to notice, pedal did feel a lot smoother but performance gains didn't see any. Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. I'm 99% sure I will never get headers. I know it's only $125, but I'm trying to spend my mod money wisely.

Can anyone recommend a better way to spend $125 that would increase performance and/or MPG?
