Anyone use or familiar with FX or FX-R Projectors instead of Morimotos?

I want to run 55w's.. but after reading that the Mini H1's can't take the heat of the 55w bulb over long term, I may need to go FX or FX-R projectors..

Anyone familiar or retro with them in the past? Will they fit our housings? Or should i just say screw it and stick with 35w with MH1's?

Well.. Further reading shows some interesting info. 55w will give more output. But the increased output will be only be of benefit when using high beams. On low beams the throw of the light will not be increased when going from 35w to 55w.

The FX-R is a superior pojector, but is also far larger.
It also is no were near as easy to install (no threaded shaft)

Also, that bit of only the high beams being better? Yea, that's just wrong.
It will go further, and there will be more light in the throw area.

The cut off line will never move, but in a typical application, the cut off line is just below parallel with the ground.
Only on a lifted truck do you really need to angle them 'down'

Was doing a bunch of reading on TRS's site, and HIDP.. Seems like everyone recommends avoiding 55w all together on the MH1's.. even people posting pictures of bulbing projector housings.

How long have you run the 55s?

There are many people running 55W projectors from RetroShop here. I have a set also, but being I've only had the truck for a year and the projectors for about 10 months, I don't think that really counts as long term.

The Morimotos fit just right. I don't think anything larger would fit.

I'll go on record..........

I've been told by MANY MANY people to NOT run 50/55W HIDs in the MH1s. I do anyway.

Now, how many failures have I had? 1. One single projector. uno......

It wasn't pretty, but hey - **** happens. The inner reflective surface pealed right off.

35W is the industry standard. But, screw standard.

As for FXR, if you want those - you have 2 real options...

1 - 2013s with retroquick FXR setup
2 - 09-12 duals, fully retrofitted with FX-Rs. Those will be fun.....less costly than 13s, but you'll spend about 2-3x the labor to do it.

I think the man killer of MH1 + 55W is really small housings, which the Ram is NOT.
You cram it into a fog light housing, or a tiny car housing, and the heat concentration is a lot higher.

I think for the Gen IV Ram headlights it'll be 100% A-OK.

So those larger units will only fit the Duals, and not Quads, correct?? The quads are pretty tight.

That is correct. The housing size of the FX-R just won't fit in a Quad housing.
