I just shelled out $1600 to have a broken valve spring on my 2017 Ram 1500 replaced. (123K miles) I asked the tech how this could happen. He said it’s just a bad spring. So do I have other bad valve springs in my engine…. Can I expect this to happen now on a regular basis due to miles on the truck? IMG_8635.jpeg

$1600 to replace "1" spring, they seen you coming. At most it should be 2 hours labour and the cost of the spring and valve cover gaskets.
I'd say you better look for another shop to have work done,or buy the tools and do it yourself.
Valve springs are a wearable item, they do fatigue over time, and have been known to break.

on my 2013 ram I had one snap at about 3 rs and less then 60k miles on truck.
Thank God my truck had the 5 year/60k power train warranty so it was coered for free.

Who fixes ONE valve spring at over 120k miles, at least do the side? Sigh. The shop should know better. For 1600, you should have gotten all them done.

Yes it is commonish, it is thin metal under extreme conditions and further exacerbated if you live in cold climates. It is hit or miss, but I would never be surprised a valve spring goes at 100k miles on a hemi.

Double check, maybe they did replace them all? At least the side that was open?

Yes, I hope they did at least the one bank of springs! Way too much money for just one. I've heard of failing springs and rockers but at least you were at over 100k miles.
