New to me 2010 Ram has a rattle over small bumps. Tried whacking everything underneath with a rubber mallet and nothing obvious moved or made a noise except the front axles.

The inner CV joint is loose enough for me to move it up and down and front to back on the stub. it also makes a clunk if you whack it. I'm new to Rams but I don't think there should be any perceptible motion by hand on that.

I am afraid the splines on the stub shaft are worn too. Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks

You will be able to move the inner joint a little bit. Of course there’s a difference between normal and to much play.

I don't know the difference between normal and too much. I've never seen this much play. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

Maybe a little bit more than normal. How does it compare to the driver side?

I have a 2015 ram making a clunk sounds from the left front, 56k miles I have the same exact play in my shafts as well, thought this could be an issue but haven't found anything to compare it to because they aelre both the same...

Driver's side is similar. my isn't a clunk but a rattle. I can't find anything else loose enough to rattle.

I have the same issue with my 2014 1500. The intermediate shaft or stub shaft is the cause. Yours should be easy to replace as you can remove it and place in a new one. Mine on the other hand I have to remove the front driveline to replace it.
The issue is caused by a number of issues but if you put a new one in it should fix the problem. I would recommend a new axle as well, to make sure the parts fit properly.

I hate to revive an old thread but I have the same issue on my 2015.

Bought the truck with a loud humming wheel bearing on the drivers front.
Replaced both front bearings with Timken.
Strange vibration/gear noise/faint off-balance grinding still coming from the front end.
Every 4-5k miles my front tires are out of balance by 1.5 to 2 ounces from the vibration.

Been in and out of the dealership 3 times so far.
They either blame it on the tires or tell me it's faint and they don't know what it is.
5 year/ 100k drivetrain warranty on my truck so I have another year to get this figured out.

Any suggestions?
I have similar, if not more play in my cv shafts as well.
