Boring? Yup...but it aint freezin'!

LOL, talk to me in July/August when it is 167F outside in the shade, and the humidity is like trying to breathe underwater! :pepper:

We've been to Cancun in May and June, but at least we were on vacation, at a resort, all incusive, limited to 10 days.

And there were 3 massive pools and the Caribbean ocean. Awesome to visit.

Ideally I wouldn't live in either place, but we gotta take the pros with the cons.

During the height of the scamdemic me and 25 of my closest friends decided to break out of this goulag and vacation in a free state

We rented a house in Arizona and by 10am the mercury was sitting at a solid 120
It felt great, the humidity was so low it felt like 85 back in Michigan

Our son has been in Yuma for at least 10 years (USMC), and I visited for a week in May several years back.
Wow -even in the middle of May it didn't feel very warm because I am unaccustomed to the low single-digit humidity.

They talked me into climbing Telegraph Pass - OMG I thought I was gonna die. Apparently 0.5L of bottled water was not sufficient for my old and out of shape *** to make the trip, although our son was gracious enough to respect me to for attempting to try it and reaching the summit.

Fairly awesome to consider the wide variety in environments all with one country.

My Generac APP called Mobile Link, will send me notifications. I had it installed 3 years ago, connected to my WiFi. I can't change setting through the APP, but I can on the control panel of the unit. I just wish the APP would allow me to put in maintenance records. I change the oil once a year and clean it out as needed.
I log the MX records on mine no problem. That it will accept

It is 23°F currently sleeting outside like a crazy guy and also thunder and lightning at the same time. What type of weird weather is that?

I get that it's not typical of Texas, but you've been around. Don't tell me
you haven't seen this isht before.

This 1st blizzard I can remember with thunder/lightning was 1966. Drifts
over my head. It was awesome! I was 9. Time of our young lives.

We are on day 4 of schools being closed due to 'inclement weather'

It drives me crazy, we live in Michigan, we KNOW it's gonna snow, and if it was 2, 3 foot overnight, sure I get it...but we haven't seen more than 4 inches of fresh snow a day...that's considered alright dusting
The real danger is all that ICE just west of you…

I recall waiting for the bus in some pretty deep snow, and very cold temps, when I was a kid. We waited at the end of our driveway - not in our parents' car. And you didn't miss the bus if you knew what was good for you. Heck, our bus even got stuck down in a valley and couldn't get back up out of it. They brought another bus and we walked to the top of the hill to get on it!
Our society has gone soft
Yeah. And I walked up 5 flights of stairs carrying 2 50lb blocks of ice.

NEVA heard ne thing in a storm called "Thunder Sleet", new one. Have heard "Thunder Snow". Now both are extremely rare here, as we get a max of 1" snow per season normally. And yes, I am from the NE, snow nuthin new, heck as a kid, we shoveled snow off of rooftops. JUST neva heard that "1" particular term, just weird.

Thunder/lightning also very rare in these parts during a winter storm. Very rare, but it does happen.

Texas? Yeah. That would catch me a bit off guard too.

There was so much sleet piled up against my North side porch door. I had to go grab a shovel and walk around and shovel off the porch so I could let the dogs out. And that was only like 20 minutes total.
Definitely not central Texas weather

If love to have one of those but its just not worth the investment

I have a 5800 watt generator that will run the kitchen, furnace and sump pumps just fine, Ive had it for 4 or 5 years and needed it for less then 24 during that time

I dont have one now but i had one on my superdookie (diesel)

I installed one of these on the driver side front bumper, made life quote a bit easier

No more kneeling down in the snow looking for dangling plugs, and the cover keeps the elements out when not in use

PLUS, now it's on the side I get in and out of the truck at
YUP, whole house may be overkill and expensive. But the peace of mind is nice too. DIY, U got a url for that plug box?

I think this is the one I used

Its called a shore plug, i guess its intended purpose is to feed 110 volts into a boat while docked, but it worked perfect for the block heater

I have my 5550W gasoline powered genny waiting on the patio and plenty fuel.. I dont have a transfer switch so if power fails, I run a couple of cords under the garage door and into the house under a door. would just run a space heater or two and maybe the tv to keep track of the weather news. can also run tankless gas water heater and can cook because we have gas cooktop. back in '21 big freeze we lost power for 45 hours but house never got below about 45* inside. after the first 40 hours or so, fired up genny but a few hours later we got power back on. pool froze solid about 2" thick and we lost all our palm trees that were wrapped and heated because of no power. after that I started shutting down pool and drain equipment. also my wife bought some smudge pots for her green house and we tarp it real good. she works hard to save all her plants. they say we at 13* here but it has quit sleeting and not windy so not too bad. pool hasnt even froze over.

In 2021, I had a 4350W portable. Ran cords: small DVD TV, 2 space heaters, fridge, Microwave. I have a 25 year old ceramic Amana cooktop, it is direct powered wired in, so no joy there. My oven is gas, but has direct igniter so no joy there, cannot get to 110 V plug that runs igniter. So Microwave it was. Now of course, all ok. I had no power for almost 5 days in 2021, which is why I swore, NOT doing that again. As most PPL know, whole house units are friggin stupid expensive, but alas, peace of mind priceless.
