Hey all I just got my truck back from the shop I got 5100s put on it, and on the interstate there’s a bit of vibration and it’s pretty rough compared to the stock. Lower speeds it’s a lot stiffer which I read is normal. I drove the truck about 30 mins back mostly interstate. It was aligned and new brakes put on. Is there some sort of a break in period or anything or should I take the truck back to the shop?

Its pretty much what 5100's do which is why I run them at 1.4 with a 1.5" body lift so I get the ride I want at the height I want . E rated tires do not help either. The rear 5100's stand in the garage and I reinstalled the OE's .

This is always going to be a mess because "Rides Good" is 100% subjective. It's like asking what the best music is or the best restaurant in town.

Bilsteins are valved digressively which means they're a little stiff and busy on small bumps and then kinda plateau (don't become much stiffer) for large bumps. Some folks like it that way, some folks like it the other way around (loose on small stuff, stiffen up on big bumps) or linear where damping steadily gets higher as velocity increases. Outside of racing where there's a timer, there's not a universal right and wrong answer here and it kinda sucks for us as consumers because you can't just try them on like a T-shirt to find the one you like. It's expensive so you have to get it right the first time :(

Just to eliminate one possible "oops!" ... you might want to upload a photo of your shocks as they're installed here and see if anyone experienced can point out a problem your shop might have missed.

I can say towing with the Bilsteins is a much better experience than the stock shocks. When towing my camper the rear of my truck would bounce like crazy while going over bumps. The 5100s soak up the bumps while towing much better. Supposedly I had “HD shocks” from the factory according to my build sheet.
