There was an old video back in 2014-2015 that has since been pulled off the official Ram Truck YT channel with the chief engineer taking a question and answer session on the then new released 6.4L for RAM. He mentioned that all development and engine testing was designed around 5W-30. He did not clarify why 0W-40 would make it as the recommended fluid but speculation was to keep it align with the SRT 6.4L variants that needed it.I have the 6.4. I use 5W-30.
I ran 5W-30 in my 2015 2500 with the 6.4L with no issues a couple of times and an oil analysis showing it ran fine.
