Has anyone ever tried or figured out how to make the cab lights come on along with the amber parking lights as DRLs? I was reading through the alfa thread and it looks like they are wired separately from and drl circut. Just curious if anyone has messed with it or not.

Do you mean the running lights, on the roof? If so, they do come on with the parking lights. ?

You can’t do it with Alfa, you would have to do some manual re wiring

I looked into it before and don't think it's possible. They are on different circuits and even if you tried to hard wire them together you are going to start throwing errors because of the canbus system.

Are you sure that the cab lights are canbus? Not every light on the truck is monitored by the canbus system (ie interior lights). I’ve never read anyone having any message about cab lights from canbus.

No it's not but if you tie it in with the DRL that is and will cause issues. That is what he is hoping to do and it won't work.

True, the clearance lights are all by themselves (along with the fender markers and rear light bar on DRWs) with no monitoring. You could definitely tap the DRL circuit into them and configure them to work with no issues. But, why the hassle? At this point, if all the OP wants is the amber lights for DRLs, you might as well just turn on the parking lights with the headlight switch.

Any time I installed clearance lights on a Ram (5x) I tied them into the parking light wires right behind the lights. I have yet to do it with these projector lights . I may not find out either as I don't think this truck will be tall enough to look sensible with them anyway . Its not tall enough to be concerned with clearance. I doubt OE lights would be bright enough to be seen during the time you wouldn't have your headlights on anyway from what I have seen.

Your right, it’s pretty hard to tell if the clearance lights are on or not during the daylight hours.

However, it’s much easier to tap into the main fuse box next to the battery to power clearance lights instead of tapping off the parking lights wire behind the headlamp cluster. There is a fuse spot for “Clearance Lights” in that box which is empty(no fuse installed) if you don’t have them, or with a fuse if your do have them. Just tap off that, easy as pie with one of these:

Can you use a relay that is triggered by the parking lights? I wouldn't think that would trip the canbus warnings, but I'm new to the Ram...

Why not just plug into the factory plug that is located on the passenger side end of the dash. Remove snap in panel and plug is hanging right there. Green/White wire if correct.
Doing it that way anytime your parking lights are activated your clearance lights will come on.

Not all seem to have that wire in the A pillar. Most of my trucks did but my 14 didn't

If you use side taps to add circuit with a factory fuse, make sure to install in the reverse of the package suggestion so that you do not risk overloading the feed circuit. I.e orginal = 10 amp plus new tap circuit = 10 amp then feed circuit could be overloaded with 20 amp draw. In the reverse the original fuse feeds the tap circuit so you cannot exceed the 10 amp original fuse on the feed circuit. If you need more current the original circuit can spare then I would utilize the tap circuit to trigger a relay and wire the relay to main power point / battery with its own fuses.

I know that in the 2013 Ram, the clearance light fuse is a M-case style fuse, and not a typical spade style fuse, so a a "fuse tap" will not work. I might be missing something, but I don't see how the above listed style fuse tap would work. This is what the M-case fuses look like.

My 2017 uses F79 for the clearance lights, it’s hot when the lights are on with no fuse so a simple fuse tap worked for me

My 2014 is the same. I used the circuit to run the air dam and side lights.

Just wondering how you fellas tapped into the fuse box, as far as routing the wire? Did you make a little notch in order for the wire to fit through without getting pinched by the lid? I don't know if the older 4th Gens are different but I'm having one hell of a time
