I don’t know enough about engines but I’m interested to see. It sounds like he’s got logic behind his view inside these engines.

This is very compelling, it will be interesting to hear when and if anyone can dispute the findings with what appears to be sound logic and science. Another idea that popped into my head is a sticky forum that allows users who had engine failures of this nature to vote in the type of driving they do: some way to show low RPMs or high. While not scientific, it would maybe allow some way to refute or validate the findings in the video.

While I wait for the eventual feedback to this, I will wonder if my mostly city driving is hurting my engine and if I need a thinner oil to help with splash. Have to say my last two RAMs were mostly highway driving at high speeds and under stress of towing, so never had a problem with getting to very high miles in both.

This is spot on.

It is the reason we have been saying LOW RPM KILLS HEMIES! it is fact. The cam gets way to little oil.

Its the reason ill run on the highway in 5th grear ay 60-65 mph and 2200-2500rpm+ instead of doging the engine 6th dropping the rpm under 2000.

My truck will NOT EVER see 6th gear unless 6th will hold it OVER 2000rpm.

I run my truck in T/H mode exclusively as well as using the gear selectors to hold gears longer to keep the RPM up. T/H also keeps the rpm up when you slow down from the engine breaking.

I have been saying for a long time. The hemi LOVES higher RPM. Performance wise and for its oiling problem.

Use good oil with a high quality base stock, high anti-friction additives and a bit more viscosity. 20W oil is not helping this problem

I wonder if a guy were to drill 4 extremely small holes in The top of that oil galley feed that blocks crank spalsh to the cam, that galley would spray a light mist Of oil directly on the cam. I mean the holes wouldn't be big enough to lower oil pressure much but enough to make sure the cam has some sort of extra coating on it. I mean it seems simple enough. Any thoughts?

I was thinking like a 0-30 syn oil but have heard 30 weight oils are no good for the hemi?

I try not to let my OCD take over as There is nothing I can do about this issue but I do have a rattle sound when starting once in a while. Usually lasts about 3 seconds and goes away. Happens once in a blue moon. I’m almost positive it’s the motor and not a manifold bolt issue

Lots of guys who have nailed down trying to eliminate the noise will run 5W-30, I run it in my wife’s Durango 5.7

2014 Ram 1500 5.7L. Spent its life in Maine. I purchased 2 oil changes ago. it was always dealer oil prior to me switching to Redline 5w30. Truck had a slight cold start tick that prompted me to research further. That pushed me towards Redline 5w30. Start up tick went away immediately and around 1400 miles into that first change the engine quieted down considerably. I still have some cold start up chatter than im trying to get rid of. this winter Ill switch to Redline 0w30 and see how that works. Here are my 2 oil change uoa's. First was done with around 7300 miles. They recommended upping to 8500. second change was 81XX. they recommed 10k now. I was very happy to see low metal wear numbers. I also had a bottle of lubeguard, thus the super high moly.
