So im about to pull the trigger on upgrading my cam, lifters, rods etc. and was wondering if anyone could just enlighten me on any questions i should be asking prior to install. Someone already informed me i should request a cam card that basically states the grind of the cam should i need a tune from another tuner but what else? Im sure im like the rest of you who cant stand for someone else touching their truck but unfortunately i dont have the time nor space to complete myself so i have to trust this shop to do it right. Would like to go in at least sounding like i know the ins and outs. Appreciate any and all advice.

I'd go with non-MDS lifters and whatever else is necessary to make them work properly.
There's plenty of cam/lifter threads to search for details.

Ive read most of the threads which do a great job of explaining installs, tunes and gains but really just want to go in having a little bit of knowledge just in case this place tries to BS me into something i dont need or charging me extra for something that really doesnt exist. Not saying mechanics are bad people but ive been to a few thats tried the ol.....you know. Appreciate the input. Thought it was just going to be me on here. I tend to talk to myself but never through messages.

Hopefully this gives you some help.
I’d get the cam from whoever does the tuning on it. Most shops well try to sell you a off the shelf cam(well in my situation they did). A good tuner will provide cam specs that will be best for your application.
As far as install, make sure they install new quality lifters. And make
Sure the heads are sent off to a good machine shop for re working. Some may just check the deck and leave it at that. I don’t like that.
Replacing part gets expensive but it gives you a piece of mind. I’d go for oil pump, timing chain kit, all oem gaskets and antifreeze, valve guide seals(which should be done at machine shop) spark plugs, head bolts or studs.
my truck is 18 with 30k miles and as soon as I get my cam from jay, I’ll be replacing all of those I listed for you.

Depending on how aggressive the cam is you will most likely have to get a phase limiter or a phase locker.
