Catch can 100 miles since install

@bereta1 I just emptied my can a couple days ago at 118,500 miles, and the can has been on the truck for 10,000 miles now. It looks like I have drained right around 10oz (or 297ml) since I installed it. I typically drain it 1 or 2 times between 5k oil changes. Currently running Red Line 5w-30 full syn.

My bottle of nasty...

What brand of can did you buy.The Mishimoto and Moroso cans are 2 of the better quality cans for a basically stock 5.7 truck. Some of the cheap ebay cans aren't quite as efficient at condensing the oil out of the pcv system.
But for a 100 miles as @mikeru stated that's about par for what one will gather up,especially if that 100 miles was mostly highway driving

Is this an indication something may be wrong? I thought thr UPR was one of the good ones.

No, this is not an indication that something is wrong. What you saw in your catch can is normal after so few miles. Check it in a few thousand miles and see what it has collected. In a healthy engine the can should not fill up between 5k mile oil changes. In my F150 (EcoBoost) I have to empty the UPR can half way through an oil change interval. But that's a 12 year old truck with 150k miles.

No, give it time. Look at the pic I posted. There is a label at the bottom.
The 1st time I emptied my catch can (Moroso) was after 2 months and more
than 1700 miles. Just barely filled the bottom of the bottle and the catch can was less than 1/2 full.

They aren't a bad can, they're just one i wouldn't buy,as you have to unscrew them to drain them.I've got to much experience with galled threads on aluminium to like a can that needs to be unthreaded to drain,so i stick to cans that use a ball valve for draining.
I think you're expecting alot for a 100 miles, give it a couple thousand miles and see how full it is.If the majority of your driving is highway miles, you won't have as much in the can as a truck that is strictly city drove .How and where the truck is drove also makes a differance in how much blowby the engine will experience. If the truck is only drove short distances in a city enviroment and never gets up to full operating temp before being shut off,it'll usually have more blowby then a vehicle that is highway drove for long enough periods to get to full operating temp

Thanks. First experience with a catch can. Learning as I go. I can get an optional ball drain valve that replaces the plug in the bottom of the can. I thought about the seizing aspect as well. I asked UPR about it and they didn’t recommend seizing compound, but oil on the threads. Thanks again.

I'd spring for the ball valve, then it becomes a pretty good can.
Put a hose fitting on the ball valve and run a hose down under the truck, then it's easy to drain into a catch basin during oil changes

Any evidence that not using a can is still good enough? Let me ask it another way.
Changing my oil every 15,000 miles is bad. Changing it every 5,000 is better. I think everyone would agree. But is changing it every 7500 miles good enough?

Years ago I had an old Ford F150 six cylinder with almost 300,000 miles on it before the body and chassis rot made the truck unusable. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles because it was easy to look at the odometer and remember when it needed it. That was about 60 oil changes. I'm sure I could have changed it every 3500 miles and used synthetic oil and some oil filter at 3x the cost of the cheap fram filters, but it seems like what I did might not have been the best, but was still good enough? What exactly would I have gained?

I get it that my intake manifold isn't as pretty as yours, but would a can somehow make a difference for me if I never look inside? My truck is 9 years old, and I'll probably keep it another 3 years. So if I get rid of the truck when it's 12 years old, am I somehow going to have a major mechanical issue or a big difference in trade in value based on whether or not I had used a can? Is there a huge group of people regretting that they never used one?

I'm not trying to be a jerk - I'm just trying to see if this is a cosmetic thing or it's somehow going to make a material difference.

Use the search button in the upper right hand corner, this subject has been done to death on here already. No point in rehashing it all over again.

I definitely see the benefits every time I empty the can, usually when I change oil & around 1/2 way thru my oci which I try to do every 5k.
When I got my Hp tune, set for 93 octane, the tuner highly recommended that I install the catch can.
