Good evening folks. Need some help please. I have a 3500 with Cummins and Aisen transmission. I did a fluid and filter change this evening. I went to start up truck when done and after wait to start light went off a 4 wheel dr temporary disabled came on the screen. It Was only on for 2-3 seconds. Never seen it before. After starting it up the check engine light stayed on. I only ran it for a few min and then drove home from my Dads barn to house. That distance is only about 2/10 of a mile. I haven’t check the fluid level yet because it wasn’t up to operating temp. The dealer said it should take 7.2 qts to fill back up. I believe I’ve read that on here as well. I only put 6.75 qts in so as to not over fill. I was real careful in trying not to touch any wiring or connections when pan was off. Does anyone have a clue here? Thanks

i cant say why a check light is on but about the trans fluid heres what i do. i make a note where the level on dipstick is before i dump it. afterwards i measure the old fluid just to verify it correspondswith what the book says AND so i know precisely how much to pour back in, based on where the level was on the dipstick. but your method of holding back a half qaurt for now seems reasonable as well. although i still prefer to see for myself how much is drained out, as typos in books and online publications can happen. sounds like you did everything correct, assuming you didnt leave any wires under the pan disconnected, ( if there was any to even disconnect). me i would just reset the lights. ( unplug the battery im guessing?)

Do you have a code reader? That will give the best info for sure. If you're near an Autozone they'll read it for free. I wouldn't worry too much. These trucks have a ton of complicated electronic crap and it doesn't take much to get a code to spit out. I generally reset it (done from a code reader) and see if it returns.

Thanks to both of you For replying. I will measure what came out later today and adjust accordingly. I’ll get it up to operating temp and check level. The transmission seemed to function as normal (although I didn’t get up to no more than 15 mph). It went into drive and reverse with no funny noises or actions. I also switched in the 4 wheel dr and 4 low. That seemed normal as well. So I’ll guess I’ll know more this afternoon. It’s not a daily driver so it’s sitting at home.

Update on this subject. I checked the tranny fluid in truck before starting up. The level on the dipstick is just below the hot mark. I started the truck and check engine light still on so I shut it down. I disconnected both negative cables from battery for about 5 min. Reconnected and started truck. Check engine light went off as normal. I’m praying it stays off and all is ok. I will take for a drive and check the level against the hot marks on dipstick. Thanks men for your input.
