We have a ‘98 2500 5.9 Turbo Diesel with a manual transmission. Drove fine for a short trip to town with a trailer. When backing up next to a building, when I pushed the clutch pedal in, nothing happened and there was very little resistance to the pedal. The truck would not stop and when I applied the brakes, the front wheels locked up, but the rear kept spinning. I had to shut off the ignition to stop the vehicle. When I tried to restart it, I had to put it in neutral because the clutch would not allow me to put the truck in gear.

My mother-in-law (owner) said she had “some part” installed a few years ago that had to do with the clutch. Had to have the truck towed home.

What the heck could have happened?

It's most likely either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder, they're what push on the throw out bearing/pressure plate to release the clutch from the flywheel.
Check the fluid level but if it's low you have a leak and needs to be fixed. Probably a good time to R&R the clutch at the same time if it's the slave cylinder.

Thanks for the response. I will check the reservoirs as soon as I get a chance to.
