Driving home from an Ice fishing trip CEL came on. Looked at the gauges noticed oil pressure was low, stopped and had codes read.

Truck is a '13 1500 with 5.7l HEMI - 74k miles, 4k miles since last oil change.

Engine sounds fine, Oil level is good, Oil looks fine.

Hot idle is now 25psi and Highway is 30psi.

Codes
P1524: oil pressure out of range camshaft advance / retard disabled
P0521: Engine oil pressure sensor range / performance

Dealership said they cant look at it for a week. Anyone have any experience with these codes.

Replace the oil pressure sensor it is really easy to do its right above the oil filter i think. I would also check the pressure with a mechanical gauge but if engine sounds fine most likely just the sensor.

Also on a side note you say 4k since last oil change? check to see if your filter is a Fram if it is change your oil and filter now and dont use fram i had one restrict oil flow before.

Hey, just had same exact thing happen to me...mine had 95K on it, swapped out the pressure sensor, no luck, ended up being the oil itself. It was aerated, foamy and brownish when I changed (It was 10K and due for a change). I bought with that oil in, dealership had done it so I don't know what they used.

Replaced it with synthetic and problem went away, oil pressure back to normal.

Prompto oil filter was the culprit. Took it in, sensor confirmed to be reading the real pressure #’s. Changed filter and oil and cleared codes. Pressure back to 60psi highway, 35 hot idle.

Shop said they couldn’t figure out a brand on the filter, just that it was marked as replacement for Fram, my last oil change was at a Promto.

Name brand filters from here on out for me.

Glad you were able to get this taken care of, ShotgunWillie! If you ever need to work with your dealer down the road, we are always a private message away and happy to provide you with an additional layer of support for that process.

2008 ram 1500 5.7. Have code p0521 and p0524. But looking into it I found an oil leak rear main seal. So I'm guessing it is not holding pressure. Changing the seal this weekend. Hopefully that's wat is wrong
