I could use some advice guys...
2010 5.7 Hemi, 131K miles
It's been pretty damn hot here in Central Texas and I have been eye-balling my coolant temperature accordingly. Sure enough, that bad boy posted 244 degrees on me today and then threw a coolant red alarm indicator on the dash. I was going 80, truck full with the family and it was 94 degrees according to the truck. I told everyone to roll down the windows because the AC was going off, and the heater was coming on. The temp then dropped down to 224 and we got home safely.
After letting it cool down, I inspected my radiator and overflow reservoir. Both at full limits. I looked for noticeable leaks underneath... nothing.
I also looked at the block, the hoses, the waterpump...no steamshot (white splatter).
Months ago I moved to a V6 Efan, installed a 180 T-stat (CST) and had Hemifever adjust my tune. At the same time I did a full flush on coolant with Mopar 50/50. Truck has been running like a dream for months... until this week.
This afternoon, just as a precaution, I drained 2 gallons of coolant and replaced with clean distilled water.
E-fan works fine, no wobble, no slow RPMs. Blows quite strong. I know the T-stat releases at 180, because I use a funnel that allows me to put extra coolant/water in the bowl and at exactly 180, it dropped into the radiator. I burped the hoses and chased out all the bubbles. I made sure the heater was on to ensure coolant was getting to and thru the heater core.
I then rev'd the engine on and off for a while. Here comes the coolant out of the radiator... 190, 195, 201, 215, 220....240. F_CK!
Could I have a bad waterpump?? Next steps?
Thanks guys
