I have to sadly start the process of selling my 1500. Still like the truck, just don't need two.

As I get older, it seems less worth the trouble but I'd like some opinions. Is it worth de-modding before selling, just for a little extra cash?

Taking the intake and exhaust off is little work, it's actually the process of Craigslisting the stuff I dread. Do you guys usually leave the farkles or take em and sell em?

If you want to in my opinion get the maximum amount for everything, I def say take off the mods. Depending on what's there, you can offload on forums as long as you don't mind the hassles of selling to people whom you don't know.

If you want maximum value for your mods, then take them off and sell them separate. Only you though know the value of your time to know if something is worth the effort.

I leave them on. The enjoyment you got from the mods is worth something or you wouldn't do them. Add in the value of your time removing them and replacing with stock where necessary, what will you make? Name your price reasonably based on the value including the accessories and the buyer that likes your truck with the mods you did will eventually show up and pay up. The guy that tries to beat you down on the price because of the mods is full of it, he is just trying to get a better deal!

Then the OP is back at his original conundrum of picking his poison. Does he wait for the right buyer and go for the long sale or does he price it to move?

Simple fact is most buyers do not care for someone else's mods or want to pay the premium for it.

I just have a flowmaster 50 hd , that I added that wasn't stock. I will take that off and put the stock one back on before I trade it. Not so much for the money. Just want it stock.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think it just boils down to whether you want to bother with taking them off. You can get lucky and find some young guy that wants all those cool mods on the truck, or not. Or selling the parts on CL, you may find someone willing to pay the price you want.. or not.

I know for myself, I wouldn't buy a modded truck. Perhaps some slight mods, but nothing too serious. There's just too many factors that can rear their nasty head when it comes to what another guy did.. or tried.. to do to his truck.

So, are we all sitting here waiting for the kids to wake up and get moving? Or for the Father-in-law to finally get here? Or both..

..............

Having owned and modded many vehicles over the years, I have dropped the expectation of getting any sizable return on them when I sell a vehicle. The simple fact is any mods were for my enjoyment and I just treat it as a hobby and expect nothing later down the road.

Having also been a buyer looking at modded vehicles, unless you personally know the seller, you just do not know how well something was installed and in the case of performance mods, how much extra flogging on the vehicles was done because of it?

I think the disconnect many have especially with high priced trucks, is that they buy these $50K+ trucks and put sometimes another $10K+ in mods, the shock is pretty hard at selling time because there is a drastic drop in value for both the base price of the truck and at best maybe a 25 cent on the dollar for the mods if lucky.

I de-modded the 2007 MegaCab to keep the parts that would fit my 2014 CC Big Horn.

Light bar, lights, truck box, sub, sub amp, wheels and tires.

I pulled some other parts to sell. I don't like CL but I did eventually sell some of it through that venue:

NFab step bars, LED tails, LED CHMSL, RetroShop custom projectors & HID kit.

I got some money out of that exercise that basically paid for my Weathertech goodies, the tint and portion of my NFab step bars for the new truck.

These posters are correct when I got my Ram I guess the K&N cold air intake superchips and a throttle body spacer really made me think that the seller knew what they were doing and had done just a few mods to increase horsepower.

So I was like yeah I can take it from there but now I'm thinking I wish it would have all been stopped and I just would have done it myself especially after yesterday when I went to change the oil and I noticed he put Loctite around the oil pan plug.

Fram oil filter and really really filthy oil has got me guessing about this trucks past now.

But outside of that I would say you could always leave on your cosmetic mods and I thinking exhaust help sale the truck outside of that I don't know like if I was the past seller of my truck I would have never went with a throttle body spacer

thanks guys. I know if I'm buying a used vehicle, hypocritical but I don't like to see mods. at this point ease of selling is the only motivation I have to de-mod. I've removed some things like my subwoofer, since it fits my 2500. I'll probably take the Corsa exhaust, Vararam and the catch can off. I think for future California smog purposes, next potential buyer may not necessarily see the value in them. And if I get a few bucks for them I'll be happy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS RF!

If you are trading in, then most dealerships will actually offer you less in trade if the truck isn't stock. If selling the truck yourself, then I would try selling it with the mods first to save you the hassle of removing them.

I agree with everyone saying this.

If your trading it in pull the mods. If your selling it private party add up what you feel is a reasonable price you could sell you mods for and add it to the price and give it a try. Some people like the mods some don't. Me personally I would like a fresh start.

I traded my truck in last week. The dealer said they weren't factoring my mods in on the trade in value. So I took off as much as I could. I couldn't find the stock intake hose so I had to leave the vararam installed. It may take a little time but it's worth saving that money.

This^

When I traded in my 13 Silverado on my Ram, the dealer asked me if I still had the factory exhaust I could put back on [emoji15]

They didn't seem to mind the cosmetic upgrades (centre console/factory nav etc) but the level/exhaust etc they seemed to take away from their valuation of the truck.

I get it, as I sure as heck would not buy someone else's modded truck unless I knew it's history

Kind of sad to see it go but, my buddy is coming by tomorrow to pick up my 1500. He got a great deal. I left the corsa cat backs on the truck. He asked for the stock intake to be put back on. He's been driving a civic for years now, leaving the exhaust was the least I could do for the poor guy.

Oh yeah. he did last week. he had it detailed, looks new again. we went biking this past weekend, took "his" truck. Since I've been driving my stock 2500, I almost forgot how nice the Corsas sound. He just sits and gives it a rev here and there for fun. Probably the happiest I've seen him in a while.

I think it all worked out well. I gave him the Diablo tuner too. I couldn't convince him to let me leave the catch can and the Vararam on the truck though. Sold it for $4000 less than the average price locally for similar rams. Had to, he's an old Air Force buddy of mine and we always watched out for each other's families when either of us was deployed. we've been pretty much like brothers for 20 yrs now. Would rather do that and both be happy than "give" it away to the dealer.
