Title says it all, i'm running Shell V-Power gasoline (91 octane) and would like to know if this could lead to any issues with running the 93 Diablo Tune. Over here, we don't have anyone selling 93 Octane. Back when I had my fully built N/A Integra GSR, the V-Power gas was the only one that would actually make a difference with that motor. Any other 91 Octane would just be ok but the V-Power had that little extra punch when the VTEC kicked in...yo! Lol!

Anyways, back to the main topic. What are the possible issues that may arise from using 91 octane on a 93 octane tune?

Usually is a reason the tune says 93 octane as that is what it is tested with.

Obvious downside is possible detonation I would think. Maybe add some octane booster just in case.

I'm assuming that the timing isn't that aggressive with the disable 93 tune. so you should be fine. Pulling wouldn't be a good idea. But a tuner would know for sure.

So now you bring up another big question. Towing is not a good idea with a performance tune?

I'm pretty new to this so I apologize for my ignorance.

excessive load, with added timing, plus not having enough octane for the tune. The knock sensors will probably just pull the timing back out. So in the end, you will just be hurting yourself.

99% of Octane booster Never really boosts octane enough to matter.

If you're worried about it....

I would get a custom "91 octane tune". That way you know its good to go. Then you can datalog with your shell v-power gas and see how the truck reacts.

The stock Diablo 93 tune has a lot of timing and more then the engine can take at certain RPMs.

Knock sensitivity being close to stock makes it pull a ton of timing with ST knock regardless so its safe.

Diablo engineers must be on crack if they think these are good tunes. And this is why custom tuning is so huge for 4th gens.

Desensitize the sensors a little and pull a little timing here and add a little there, bam health gains with no effort. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Sticking to 87 Canned tune for now and Custom HemiFever tuning it is then! Thanks for the info guys!!!

Not worth risking engine knock!!!

Custom tune is defiantly the way to go, I went with Greene Racing and I'm pulling low 5's and high 4's on my 0-60 runs on a N/A motor with limited mods. The thing I like about tuners is you tell them what you want to meet your needs and they make a custom tune tailored for you. From mild to wild it's awesome:favorites13:

Mr. jmgak47 is also a custom diablo tuner, hemifever is nowhere near the only choice.

I had only ever heard of HemiFever custom tune. This changes the game a bit then. Mr Jmgak47, you will soon receive a PM :)

You made me think I was crazy, but I just reconfirmed that Shell V-Power here in Central Texas is 93 octane. Where are you located for it to be 91?

Yep, here in Quebec, V-Power is 91
Octane. Like mentioned above, Petro-Canada has the 94 octane but when I was running that fuel in my Integra, the engine was actually running rough and the VTEC crossover was barely noticeable compared to the V-Power. Maybe my engine was picky but a fully built 1.8l that developped 227whp had to get only the good stuff hehe!

Back to the topic, I think that like it was mentioned earlier, the best way to go about it is to get a custome tune!
