I’m currently running the K&N Gold filter with Platinum Synthetic Penzoil 5w20.
haven’t had any issues with that, however since reading a lot about Redline/Royal P, is like to try these out. I reside in northern Ontario Canada where we have -40c temps at times. Is there filters under these brands or what type of filter do many suggest? Not sure if K&N is at the top with these 2 brands or not.

Many people would say kn is best paper filter, read my oil filter thread in my sig. Most people probably will say spun microglass are better at everything. They filter better and last longer, and don't stiffen up like paper filters do.

As for your temps, if you waned to try redline I'd go with 0w20.

All i know is redline killed my hemi tick and pup gave me a bad tick so im sold on redline. you can feel a big difference between the 2 oils on your fingers and when i check my oil redline doesnt run off the dipstick like other oils so obviously its stickin to the valvetrain very well to kill that tick. so to the disbelievers dont knock redline until you try it. I was skeptical about redline at first until i read a lot of burlas posts and redline killed my tick immediately

I was skeptical too until H395 posted before and after videos. It had such an impact on me because at the time I had a 2013 5.7 ticking “horribly” ticking. And then the hundreds of guys that killed their tick using redline over the years.

Just checked Amazon for Redline pricing since someone earlier quoted $20.99/qt.!!! Maybe a Canadian price? So unless Amazon is selling a Chinese substitute, this is what you can get it for and have it delivered to the house---at least around here, you can....

https://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-153...sprefix=redline+motor+oil,aps,275&sr=8-4&th=1

PS: I only have 600 miles on my new Ram (and love it), but I think I will use Redline when it's time even though I have the V6 w/o the complicated valve train (and I like that part too). Happy Trails

Yeah, we were complaining about the Canadian gouging we get on everything. The exchange rate isn’t our friend right now!

The gallon is like $84 Canadian on Amazon.ca.

Bought my 08 1500 4x4 5.7 used with 89k on it from Copart with light front damage. It had the Hemi tick at start for a second, then I changed whatever was in it for Amzoil 5-20 and no tick since. It now has 93k and purrs.

Everything is more up here, like way more!
Sorry folks, that just doesn't feel proper. Then I read that USA folks cross the border to get their prescription drugs---aren't we friends and allies? WTF! Things get expensive here in California too, glad for Amazon but I do try to buy local.

Oil Change happening this week. Ordered RL 5/30 and RP filter via Amazon. I checked JEGS first as someone recommended, but I must say their site is horrible to use and I couldn’t get the RP filter to show up on their site.

My RAM is a 2014 with 145k, no tick currently so this is my typical preventive maintenance. I need to do all fluids as I just purchased the truck used recently. I want to ensure the diffs and tranny/transfer case are fresh.

I also need to do some research on which fluids to use for those.

Man for the rfe I don't think anything comes close to redline c+, my transmission is shudder free since I changed that. Crazy how a fluid can do so much, just like redline is killing ticks, I think c+ is just as big of an upgrade for transmission and transfer case.

Before you change it, look up the metal thread upgrade and synthetic filter options. Because most people change their filter less in the transmision, it pays to have synthetic media imo.

For diffs you can go with reldine and make it a tri fecta, or amsoil SG is another great choice, and they have cool bags so you don't even need a pump. If you use redline for diffs, this is the one you want, you don't want the one with NS in title. Nick at got exhaust price is much better then the price you get from redline.com. The reason the specs aren't upgraded is because there has been no need to change the formula, gear fluid unlike engine oil specs have been unchanged for nearly 2 decades. 140 weight in the rear, 90 weight in the front.

I’m sure it has been covered but I’ll ask anyway. Is there a preference for 20 weight vs 30? I opted for 30 as it is my current preference. I also opted for 5w-30 as I don’t see extreme low temps and 5 seems fine for my low temp startups. Just wondering if there is another thread here maybe on 20vs30?

There is a thread in engine performance section right now. Arguments for 20 weight, good cold performance and manu wants that oil in truck, plus minor gas mileage increase.

Argument for 5w30, slightly more film strength and fca has had plenty of issues with engine failures due to cams. The argument continues, high additive oil or low additive oil, also part of your choice.

The 5w has to do with cold start up, not the 20.

I got so tired of fighting the cold start knock/tick that I traded in my '17 6.4 for a Cummins this past Thursday.

I used Redline 5w40 for over 1500 miles and it did nothing to quiet the valvetrain. What it did do was knock my fuel mileage down a good 2mpg on average.

I do want to say thank you to Burla and others who are doing there best to remedy these poorly built hemis through better lubrication. Unfortunately I feel like it's a bandaid to an underlying design flaw, one that FCA is refusing to address. Best of luck to all of you...
