As purchased from the dealer , my '17 5.7 seems to show way over full .

Are the dipstick readings inaccurate, or was it too full when l bought it ?

I seriously doubt they installed the marks on the dipstick in the wrong place - but considering where we're at with vehicles now, it seems to be within the realm of possibilities
Have you changed the oil yourself yet to be sure it has the correct amount?

It might be in your best interest to change it now - or at a bare minimum, let some out so it's not "way over full" ;)

What with " unscheduled purchase " of truck, and all the first of year , once year bills , it's on hold for 3 -ish weeks .

Being slightly over full has not shown Ill effects on any hemi I'm aware of.

I do know the 2015 Durango 5.7 was produced with an incorrect dipstick marking and was the subject of much debate. A corrected dipstick was made available if you specifically asked for it from FCA (at the time).

My 2016 Ram and 2022 Jeep Wrangler all show a high reading when checked in the morning after sitting all night. If I start the vehicle and get it to operating temperature, if I shut each vehicle off and check the dipstick after five minutes, I am right at the full mark. That is the way the owners manual says to check the oil.

The dipstick likely has a part number stamped on it and should be checked for correctness. You can also check the total-length and compare to a similar 5.7 installation.

The Oil-Change performed “at purchase” …MAY have over filled it.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi….and 53021321AK is the number stamped on the blade of mine. It is 34-1/4” long from the lower tip of the dipstick, up to the thick-portion of the handle, where it narrows-down to accept the O-ring 1/4” lower.
IN other words, The T-handle is about 3/8” round/thick where it narrows to about 1/4” (the portion which rests Inside the metal tube) and then 1/4” below that narrow-point there is an O-ring.
From the O-ring on the narrowed-shank of the T-handle to the end of the dipstick blade, it is exactly 34”.

Do you know where they put the newest and/or dumbest guys to work in a garage? You're lucky if it's oil and not mystery fluid and Cheeto dust.
Is that where they're putting that dust? I'd heard that they had to abandon it due to the coloring agent being identified as a "known carcinogen".

FWIW - the oil level in my truck is always showing right at the FULL mark, whether hot or cold. I have always allowed several minutes for all the oil to drain back into the sump.

One inch above full sounds like about 1 quart too much.
