Jeez that sucks man. If the engine is toast I'd fix it as cheap as possible and get rid of the truck. That's just me though.

thanks for the info ... not looking good for Lucas products now nor my engine at this point :mad3: ...i will say i've used it since the first oil change and haven't had any issues, but, then, I didn't do any 'research'...s'pose I should have in hindsight. Looked for Mobil1 synth at the local walmart yesterday, but, they had none ...did have Pennzoil Platinum. Opinion?

So, what is the final diagnosis Roaddawg? Do they know what the issue is for sure at this point? Just a flywheel or flexplate issue, or something more serious?

I'm waiting for them to say " It's Normal, they all do that., Here let us put a towel on the tailgate so you don't burn your hands while pushing it home."

A few years ago I heard of a program that was sponsored by Ram that allowed the dealer to give you a break on parts and labor for major repairs. The dealer has to get the factory approval and as I remember it is based on your loyalty to the brand and to the dealership(repeat customer in sales and service). The dealer has to approve the request first and then go through "channels" to have it approved at the factory level. I don't remember the % of discount on parts and/or labor. This might help you in your situation.

that would be "FCC goodwill". the percentage of good will varies as each case is handles individually.

What other issues are going to arise though? In the long run a new truck with a full warranty could save money.

OP, am I to understand you are out of warranty?

IM thinking , now, based on your latest update your timing chain guides/ tensioners failed/ broke and reeked havoc.

just another theory at this point but that's an area these engines have had problems in the past.

IDK why they haven't pulled the plugs and had a peak / attempted to bar over, but they may have decided its a moot point, which its not.

It does seem to point to a total rebuild, as metal has apparently went thru the engine and or the engine ran without lube.

However if the timing chain failed and then the oil pump there would be metal in, but not beyond the filter, until the bypass opened. once the chain breaks the engine will stop as its an interference engine( meaning the piston hits the valve. ).

just ideas, still hoping for minimal damage/ least costly fix for you

Well, if the engine is a total loss and you do decide to keep the truck, I would go 6.4L

Done & thanks

Well, it's done ..new crate motor, installed and back under my butt...a few things left to iron out though, since I discovered a couple of things missing and for some reason my alignment is out ...rolls quickly to the right now...was straight as an arrow when I dropped it off .. now to decide on what oil to use in it ..leaning towards Amsoil after seeing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3y-1lxMTxE

Opinions invited.
Just like to add thank you for all your inputs ... as usual, I've learned a lot of 'what abouts' ;) to look for when I'm having an issue with an otherwise great truck...Love my Ram, again ;)

Thanks, ya'll ...I'll be back for more!

Original engine, seized, using bar didn't work ...even with engine out.
Saw engine after heads removed...both front right pistons were at the top of the cylinders...that can't be right, right? ;)
2017 Hemi Crate engine-30 miles, so far, so good! ;)

I've never seen Redline oil on the shelf here in Ontario, Canada, but would welcome a referal to a known source here in Canada.

Did you go with a larger displacement, or just another 5.7L?

Based on what he said about the pistons; I'm guessing either the crankshaft or a connecting rod broke or both.

According to this 3rd party test, Mobil 1 just barely meets the requirements for motor oils ability to prevent sludge under extreme heat. .... Why wouldn't I want to go with the one that shows the greater ability to prevent sludge...considering it was sludge that plugged up my pickup tube and ruined my old engine?

Pickup tube was plugged with sludge and starved the engine for oil ... engine seized ...they were never able to bar the engine over even when it was removed.
