Started cleaning up my heads and valves. Damn, is there an a$$load of carbon in the ports. Knocked a bunch out, then hit with some wire brushes.

I had already gotten a bunch out before this bunch in the intake ports.

I have a glass top sidebar table, wanna spray-glue several sheets of 600 paper side by side, and figure 8 the head to smooth out the block surface.

I haven't been able to work on her much this past week. Actually, I havent had the energy.....lol.

Is it ok to use assembly lube on the valve stems when I reassemble them, or just oil?

Assembly lube will stick around till it gets oil up to the top end

Barely.....lol.

That cleaner leaves my fingers like prunes, and slick, too.

It looked like it might leave a little residue, but hard to tell because the water here is very hard.

I stuck both heads in a tub of water and Dawn dishsoap, think I might let them soak for 24 hours to see how that behaves.

Actually those aren't bad for 200K,i've seen chambers and ports in far worse shape then yours with only 80,000 miles on the engine. That's a testament to using good fuel and staying on top of your oil changes

Most important said for people to read and adhere to: Run top tier fuel and stay on top of oil changes: not go 7500 or 10000 miles and definitely disregard silly oil % meter. All IMHO.

Mileage directed to gas motors, diesels may be done differently as U talking different stuff like regens and fuel dilution.

That's wild, because I run 87 almost exclusively, and was changing oil by the OCI up til now, so I guess I was extremely lucky.

Also, less than 9% idle time.

Gonna run RedLine for my first full change, and better gas as well. As well as shorter intervals for oil changes from here out.

Well, I feel so incredibly stupid. I had a few day delay in cleaning of my heads, and I got sidetracked and left them submerged in the rinse water for a couple days.

At first I thought it started to rust the valve guides and seats, but that was leftover oil residue and some hard water residues and such. I was able to clean it up and oil the valve guides and seats.

So, I started in cleaning the untouched head.

Used up the last of the brakleen I had, and then it occured to me, "Dumba$$, why don't you use some gasoline to clean up the heads?" The gas worked about as well as the brakleen did, except I will still use some brakleen to rinse things off before the head reassembly.

See what I mean about Ed luck? I take the long way around the lake. I get there eventually....lol.

So, not much going on except cleaning, gonna get a few extra gallons of gas so i can give the heads a good last soak. I will have to dispose of the dirty gas with the county, but I have a bunch of used coolant and other stuff I can take there with.

Sorry for the very slow progress, stay tuned.

Ok, since I had some time, I removed the throttle body, fuel rails, SRV, and pcv valve.

There is some internal stuff to the SRV. Anything I need to worry about while cleaning?
20250809_163543.jpg

Also a sensor, related to the srv? Does it come out? Didn't want to break something.

TIA
