I tried my redneck resurfacing, and it did work, but the sanding sheets I got were too fine (800). I did use some scotch-brite pad, but those are very fine as well. I didn't want to get really aggressive, either.

I have a couple 400 grit 6 x 48 belts which I have glued to my glass top.

The head has some discolored spots from the earlier cleaner, hard water, my dirty fingers, and original use, but is flat (I could not get a .0015 feeler gauge underneath my straightedge anywhere).

Waiting for the 6 x 48 belts to dry to my glass top.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure I can get all that discoloration out. I do plan to wipe them down with alcohol to clean the surface.

Will my head gasket adhere ok as is?

Working on the block head surface and piston tops. Slow going, but progress nonetheless.

Passenger side:

Gonna pull the block drains while I'm at it, should've done it awhile ago.

Looks great! Your attention to detail & elbow grease are easy to see, I’m looking forward to you getting back on the road.
Keep the updates coming.

Thank you.

There's alot of procrastination in there, too. I should've been done long ago. I hope I remember where all the bolts go, and have none left over.....lol

Passenger side pretty good:

Drivers side piston tops done, need some more work on head gasket surface, though.

Got my block drain plugs out, almost stripped the passenger side. Torque spec page only says 15 ft-lbs, but they seemed alot tighter than that.

Wasn't a whole lot of coolant left in the block. I did lose some on the floor....lol. There's some gasket shizzle in there, too.

I tried to have a vacuum going as I cleaned the gasket surfaces, but I guess I missed a little.

I might run some distilled water through the coolant passages in the block to see if any crud comes out.

Also, blew out the head bolt holes, there was a fair bit of shizz in them, too.

Pistons are looking good.
Thank you.

With a little luck, hopefully I can start reassembly this weekend. Need to finish cleaning the block head surfaces and the timing cover and oil pan surfaces first.

Shooting for soaking the lifters Saturday while cleaning the surfaces. I do still have to remove the mds solenoids.

Once I start reassembly, can I prefill some of the oil galleys? I'm not sure if it will help or not. I have not removed the front oil galley plugs yet either.

So nervous, wanting to get it right.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a chronic worrier.....lol

Google how to prelube a Hemi Ed,you use the plugs above the oil filter housing to force feed oil through the system, prior to starting it,it's far better then doing the foot to the floor prime job.

Thanks, Rick.
You're doing a wicked job on cleaning Ed,i don't think i've ever seen a set of installed pistons and used heads as clean as you've got yours :waytogo: It should run just like a new engine once you get it back together.
I think you already have a modded weed sprayer don't you,it and a fitting make it easy to prime a hemi with oil.

You can't be serious, Rick. I just figured I'd get most of the carbon out if I can. I'm sure there's some above the top ring that landed there during my cleaning.

I do have a modded sprayer, but might just get another anyway.

Spray some penetrating fluid or oil around the edges of the piston, then rotate the piston down, and wipe off the cylinder walls, any carbon left after that will just blow out the exhaust valve.
