Well, so much for getting the heater hoses for my '15, discontinued. I can get the short hose that goes to the 3way valve but not the hoses that go to the core.

And the spring clamps on those smaller hoses are only sold with the hoses.

Another bonehead move by RAM.

Anyone bypass the 3way valve? Tee the lines and leave the electrical connected?

I'm gonna take some measurements from my hoses and see what I can find to replace them with.
I bypassed the 3 way valve, and converted back to the earlier molded heater hoses Ed.I just left the valve plugged in,and never had any codes.
I did it when Khris/CrazyKid and i were messing around deleting the thermal management unit off the side of the transmission several years back

I'm not sure I want to go through deleting the TMU just yet.

Can I just install a tee in place of the 3way valve and leave the valve hooked up?

If it's easy to delete the TMU, I would consider it.

You can leave the TMU in place, and still convert back to the older molded hoses, that only feed the heater core.Alot less hoses to leak, and i noticed better output out of the heater on colder days, might not be anything you'd worry about in Florida, but in Canada better heater output means alot, lol

Just got a part number for a later set, not sure if plug and play.

Doesn't the coolant have to feed the transmission, too?
No it doesn't have to feed the transmission, the cars and 3/4 ton trucks with the 8 speed don't feed coolant to the transmission, only the 1500's feed coolant to the transmission. They have to get that last little .02 mpg out of the 1500's you know,as it's their best selling vehicle, lol. You can disconnect the hoses feeding the 3 way valve, and run from the engine to the heater core.A lot less hoses to develop leaks, and it removes any possibility of the TMU developing a leak and feeding coolant into the transmission. It's not a very common issue, but there have been reports of the tmu leaking coolant into the transmission, and taking the tranny out in very short order. Being as you're in Florida Ed,you don't really need the engine coolant heating the tranny fluid. If the cars and HD trucks don't need to heat the tranny fluid, the 1500's don't either ;)

Got a sketch of what goes where?

I'm not exactly sure of the routing as it sits I will have to take a look when I get back working on her.

I have a 200k mile water pump and all hoses as well. They still look in good shape, and they were still flexible, at least they were when I removed them.....lol

You just need the molded hoses for a 5 or 6 speed truck,i ordered hoses for a 2012 truck for mine. Then it's just a matter of installing them from the engine to the heater core outlets on the firewall, then remove the hoses from the engine that feed the 3 way valve. You can leave the hoses that go down and feed the TMU,as they're a b!atch to remove with the tranny in place, you have to physically cut them into pieces to get out if the transmission is still in place. It doesn't hurt anything to leave them in place,as they're not doing anything after you disconnect them.

The hoses @EdGs posted up in post# 504 (55056906AH) actually are for the 6 speed truck. Not sure if he noticed that or not.

The ones I posted in the previous page (post 499, i think), showed to be for the 8 speed.

No, I did not catch that.

So, which ones are best, the 6 speed ones?

Depends,do you want to bypass the 3 way valve and tmu,or not. If you want to bypass everything, get the 6 speed hoses,if you want to keep everything intact, then get the 8 speed hoses. If you bypass the 3 way valve, disconnect the hoses to it,but leave it plugged in,and it won't throw any codes. It also won't develop any leaks ,and need replacing if there's no pressurized coolant fed to it :waytogo:

When I looked up the 6 speed hoses part number on RockAuto, it came up with a Dayco brand molded hose, but it was only one hose. It also had no clamps, but it was only $19, too. Who cares if I have to order 2 of them?

Not sure about Dayco's quality, though.

If I can find the clamps.

When I use Dayco hoses they are definitely half the thickness of the OEM they are replacing. They also tend to “bulge” whereas the originals don’t. I only use them if I can’t get OEM because they are made in the USA

And THAT is what I was worried about. Thank you for the info. Made in USA is a plus, though.

Thank you, that is the 55056906AH, looks like thats the one I will get if and when I get my truck finished. Seem to be similar priced across the net.

I will opt to completely bypass the 3way valve.

I have these pics of my 3way valve and hoses, 20250118_115427.jpg20250118_120138.jpg
So am i correct that one of the hoses goes to the black metal pipe below the hose marked in blue.

Does the other go to the silver tee to the left of the blue marked hose, or to the water pump where the blue marked hose is connected?

Sorry, I am a bit brain-dead......lol

If you're converting back to earlier style 5/6 speed hoses, the "T" will go away, and that hose should go to the top heater core outlet, and the lower outlet hose from the heater core will go to the black pipe

Thank you, Rick.

So, it's a MF'er to remove the lines from the trans and TMU?

Jesse's bypass gets installed in the TMU as well, right?

If the transmission is still in the truck, you basically have to cut the steel lines to get the hoses out that feed the TMU unit.I'd leave the ones that go over the transmission in place, and just remove as many of the rubber hoses off them and the 3 way valve as you can.The older molded hoses really tidy up the heater hose routing, but getting the hoses that go over the top of the transmission out means you're doing some cutting. Both KrazyKid and i had to cut the steel hoses to remove them.I still think i have my old lines laying around i can get you pics of them, showing where i cut them to remove them if you want Ed.

Thats ok, I will just remove the rubber I can easily do for now.

This is the mess you can get rid of,if you wanted to cut the steel lines, lol.
I'd send you all my old hoses/lines if you were closer,as they're fairly low milege, and still in really good shape ;)
