I am due for my first oil change and I am wondering if while under warranty if u change the oil yourself? If you do, is it a ***** on these trucks? 2013 1500

I thought I read that a license d shop has to do the maintenance on your vehicle while under warranty. I could be wrong ofc.

Chrysler desperatley wants us to believe they have to do the work or else all warranty will be voided, but it's not so. Even if something catastrophic happens they have to prove what you did, caused the issue.
I can't imagine anyone else changing my oil. It is simple do do, yet easy to screw up. I've had a dealership pour oil all over my block and not want to shampoo it off. A fellow mgr at work took his Tacoma to the dealer for an oil change. they forgot to refill the oil!! He now drives a newer Tacoma, but it was a PITA for him.

I don't know if you can do this after the purchase of the truck but I bought a "Maintenance Care Package" for $250 that covers 18 oil changes from the dealership. That comes out to $13.88 per change and comes with tire rotation and inspections. That also means I won't change my own oil for the first 90K miles or 4.5 years (20K miles per year).

I am normally a DIY kind of guy (building road race cars) but you can't beat that price and I am tired of storing and transporting used oil. Plus, I bought the extended warrantee that covers everything on the truck for 100,000 miles so I'll let them take care of everything so I don't have to worry about it.

I do it myself almost all the time. To me its a matter of trust and price. I have had issues in the past with garages and work on my vehicles. I do mine right in the driveway and with my level it makes it easy to do without ramps.

I can't remember the last time I paid someone to change my oil. It's a bit of a PITA with three vehicles, but it's worth not letting some 7 dollar an hour flunky touch my vehicles.

The RAM is the messiest one to change. The G8 is the least with the Enclave being 2nd.

I would never let a lube tech touch my truck. Ever.

See if you can find a 'flexible funnel' they were sold for a while and you can bend them over the rack n pinion, which get bathed from taking off the filter. I used tin foil which worked ok, but not great.

I have one... It's a synthetic rubber coated piece of lead. Problem is putting it up there while still allowing room for your hands to remove the filter.

Even though I have physical issues, I do my own on the Ram. It's so easy and I know it gets done right. The truck it plenty high enough for me to get under there. My old Chevy Colorado was too low for me and I had to take it somewhere for oil changes.

I use full synthetic and It's WAY cheaper when I do it myself and get the oil on specials at Advance Auto.

Besides, It's probably over cautious, but I don't always trust garages to use the good synthetic I pay for.

I always feel that no one will care for my vehicles more than I do. I have a 2010 and they are fairly easy to do yourself. I worked in a shop that did fluid changes a decade ago. Watched as they tried to squirm out of paying to fix a guys engine after a tech forgot to tighten a drain plug. They eventually caved and covered the cost to replace the guys engine. But I would have been pissed had I had to go through that hassle over an oil change. Plus I have a preferred oil and filter I use and most garages want to charge extra for that.

Keep all your receipts and a record of the mileage [scan them into a file on your computer] because the advanced auto and auto zone ones the ink disappears after a time. If issues arise you have proof you did it. I'll always do my own maintenance till I can't hold a wrench or get up from the ground!!!

The first oil change on my truck was done by the dealership. The oil change was free and they also did tire rotation for free.

I managed a large chain lube shop for 4 years. Always check the work.
No matter how good the training or supervision, intentional or not, someone will cut a corner sometime.
I do my own service on all my vehicles. It is easy and inexpensive.

Other than that i do my own work on my truck, if i dont know how to fix or install something i just research it online. Now a days you can basically do anything yourself if u do your research correctly.

I go to the dealer to have my oil changed out as it is simply much cheaper at $16 per oil change to get it done. I usually go anywhere from 3-5k and still use the old dino oil in my 2007.

The dealership has been great the last 5+ years I have gone to them and usually don't care if I am standing by my truck while they are working on it.

Everything else, I am learning how to do it and changing it as I go. No one else touches my truck but my girlfriend or me, wouldn't even let her step-dad drive it and he had a CDL! Just cannot trust people anymore.

I change my own oil and take the old oil to autozone and get 20 cents per gallon recycling. I know oil changes are so cheap nowadays, i just like doing it myself.

Yes, I recycle my oil as well, but I take it to the local county recycling center. I can dump any time of the day which is nice because we usually do it later in the evening for some odd reason. They don't pay me, but I don't care. I'm just happy to recycle it.

I buy my own oil and filter and then have the dealer drain and fill. My first dealer wanted to charge $50 for that, my current dealer charges $14...guess where I take my truck

After working at a dealer and training guys in as lube techs I have a real hard time taking my vehicles to someone to change the oil. The guys I trained in didn't get the idea that everything you loosen you put your wrench or hand on at least twice to make sure it is secure and as soon as I left that dealer one of the guys that flat out would not learn locked up a brand new cummins. Needless to say I only let people that share the same mechanical values as I do touch my vehicles.

I purchased the pre-paid maintenance contract with my truck. Theoretically I should pay nothing additional for oil change, rotation and DING, DING, DING two spark plug changes over the length of the contract.
The selling dealer also warrantees the vehicle for life if maintained by a Chrysler (et al) dealership.

Only challenge is I'm not gettng even 6K miles before EVIC starts nagging me to change the oil. Eventually I'm going to have to pay for an early oil change between pre-paid intervals, or buy the Mopar filter and do the change myself to pad the interval.
