Anyone know how big of a double din head unit I can fit in my 2011 1500 st without having to cut or dremel anything out behind the bezel? I know I could just take off the bezel and measure, but I dont want to take off and put back on more times than I have to if someone already knows off top. Thanks

From my understanding, there is a bracket behind the radio that needs to be cut for any double din.

Even the ones that have a DD screen but single din chassis like the Alpine ilx-107?

For double dins on the 09-12s, it’s not just the bracket, but also the upper sub dash that needs to be trimmed a little for height. I’m not sure a double din exists that doesn’t require cutting, but if there is, you would be VERY limited because of the depth and height restrictions.

I think some of the cheap android based tablet dd have a single din chassis and I believe the alpine he referred to is the same. But otherwise just about all dd have a full dd chassis and will require cutting to work.

I actually have the ilx 107 mentioned above. It would definitely make it for height, but not depth. Probably true on some of those Android radios, though I’ve never had a chance to mess with them before.

I have the Alpine ilx-207. I did not have to cut anything in my dash - 2012 Sport. It is a single din with a a double din screen. Everything fit fine!

I ended up fiber-glassing the bezel so it fit without the edge filler plates; and later painted the light sliver parts the dark grey of the 2014+ sports.IMG_20180608_072325.jpg

I also have the 2012 sport with the Alpine speakers. I was wondering if you had to buy anything else in addition to the HU to make everything work as it does now. Back up camera, sirius radio and steering wheel controls?
Thanks

I did...a few items:
All works as it did from the factory, the steering wheel controls, the backup camera, etc. I did set up the iDatalink module to 'disable' uconnect, but retain the factor mic; which made the bluetooth audio connection easier to use. The parking brake bypass allows input to the radio (nav) when moving, which is nice.

No prob! Let me know if you have any questions - while there seemed to be hundreds, if not thousands, of posts about aftermarket radios; I was never able to find a comprehensive list of what was needed.

I just upgraded my factory 3.0 to a kenwood 303dpxmbt I think is the #. Taking dash apart is easy, taking the factory unit out is easy, did have the uconnect clip break, but I'm not using it so oh well. Hardest part was cutting the metal bar out. Tried some snips, would go through, hacksaw will fit in the hole, but you have to be careful not to have it gnaw on the plastic support. Did the ready harness from crutchfield so it was connect 3 or 4 plugs, hook in the mic, and put it back together. For the mic I ran it in the upper corner of the windshield, loosened up the pillar trim piece and weather stripping and tucked it behind there and ran it under the dash. Made a huge improvement to the mopar kicker speakers I have in.

Insteresting...I have a 2016, and was only able to use the OEM mic that came with my ILX-F309... I've always wondered how to use the factory mic that came with the truck instead, but been told that it wasn't possible... So how did you use the factory mic on your setup though? I see that you use the CH1 Harness (which I used the CH3 for my 2016) but we both used the same Maestro Module...

Honestly, I do not recall - it has been more than year since I programmed the mestro module. One of the settings as you configure it with your computer will guide you through it.

I did not mount the aftermarket mic - that much I am positive of still! :)

It’s not possible to “program” the factory mics to an aftermarket radio with the maestro because the harness that plugs into the big radio connector on the truck side doesn’t have the 4 pins populated for the factory mic wires. As far as the maestro is concerned, those factory mics don’t even exist to it.
You would have to cut the ******** of the aftermarket supplied mic and splice it into the factory mic wires, in which case (for me, anyway) gave horrible feedback on phone calls.

Sploosh!

I'm confused though, what "edge filler plates"?

Edit: Disregard, answered my own question about the Chinese single-DIN units with oversized 10" screens don't work with the factory backup camera, which is a must for me.

However, a very expensive product called the Halo 9 apparently works with 2009-2012 Rams just fine: https://www.alpine-usa.com/product/alpine-halo9-radio-apple-carplay-android-auto-ilx-f309
