Just got a FLX-183 kit. I've read just about every efan post in here so I think I'm ready. I saw this very cool home-made spanner in one of them. In the absence of said spanner is there another tool of choice to use on the old fan? Gotta knock it fairly hard to break it free. So I'm told.

When I removed the clutch fan off my old '03 hemi it made a nice improvement. I gained .5 mpg and the engine rev'd a little easier. I think you'll like it. I left the shroud in place and the flexalite 180 fan mounted to it on 3 sides. Fit like a glove! lol

I didn't have an air chisel but a hammer and chisel worked pretty good too.

I have the hammer & chisel. I'm told that I am also full of hot air. It's time to get this done. Thanks, everyone, for the input.

Just noticed that I graduated to Member. YAY!!!

used the air chisel method on my work truck last week. Super fast and easy.

You will not be unhappy with this mod. Still one of my favorites!!!

Finally got around to this install. Mechanical hiccup:

1. The windshield washer res doesn't mount correctly. There's a bracket that fits the two bottom spears but there is nothing for the top. And the top spear bumps into the radiator overflow tank... so I hacked it off. I'll find a way to secure it later. (Duct tape? jk)

Electrical questions:

1. Where's the best place to find a hot wire that's keyed? I found an empty fuse holder that's keyed hot but I can't figure how to route the wire out.

2. Which wire on the AC comp is hot? I think its the B/W But I want to be sure before I piggy-back off of it.

Thanks.

Just finished installing the Flex-A-Lite 183 kit on my truck, had to make a couple of mods to make it work on the 2002. I will post pictures when I get a chance. I used a spanner that I rented from a local parts store and the old fan came off fairly easy. Guess I got lucky.

Looks like I bragged too soon, got the fan installed but the controller is malfunctioning. Has anyone run into problems with the controllers for the Flex 183 kit?

I finished putting mine into my 2003 this weekend. I worked through the troublesome roadblocks. Stuff like when the instructions say to attach a wire they forget to add in the hour it takes to remove the cable cover... But, otherwise, the instructions were very good.

Anyway, it's done. It cycles on & off after I adjusted the setpoint. Comes right on when I turn on the AC. All I have left is to modify the fuse box cover and dress the wires.

Describe your malfunction. Maybe I can offer some suggestions.

A few more pics

Lessons learned, tips for the next Efan installer:

1. A wire that is cut a little too long is wayyyyy better than too short. :roflsquared:

2. I used most of two packages of the split flex tubing. I got mine from Lowe's.

3. One of the pics (above) shows the window washer fluid res. I had to hack off the top spear. :superhack: I was originally concerned that it would pop out if I hit a good bump. After I put it all back together I noticed that it is kept in place between the CAI filter box and the radiator overflow tank. It's not going anywhere.

Very nice. You are going to like that e-fan. Have you driven it yet? You should notice the quicker throttle response and the motor just seems to run much easier without that big clutch fan slowing it down.

I'm still watching the temperature gauge too much to notice any changes in performance. A little nervous still. I have the 91 octane tune from SC in there too and I'm running 93. It might be masking any further gains. Or not. I dunno.

What I do know is that I was sitting at the Worlds Longest Red Light today. I glanced at the gauge as it stood at the 12 o-clock position. Yikes! I've never seen it there. But, as I sat there contemplating head gasket replacement the indication dropped to normal. Right before my eyes. It was beautiful. So, the 180 t-stat and Efan are playing together nicely.

Actually, I intended to say "without the old fan drag". And the roar under the hood.

I have my superchips hooked up 24/7 and watch a few different gauges on there, quite helpful to see my exact engine temp. Quit watching the temp gauge, you're fine lol. Anyway, clean looking install man, enjoy!

Glad you got it squared away. I'm still getting use to looking down through the engine compartment straight to the ground.
