On my 4.7 I'm wanting to delete the mechanical fan and shroud, and install the v6 E fan. I've heard a lot of guys doing this but I have a few concerns.

1. I'm in Texas. It's hot as hell during the summer. With a 180 degree t stat and tuner to adjust the fan settings I shouldn't have to worry about engine over heating right?

2. In order to install this v6 e fan I will need to remove the current e fan for the ac. Does anybody know if the ac fan pushes air out of the engine bay or pull cool air in? Also the v6 e fan, does it push or pull, or is it selectable? Will it hurt anything if it does the opposite as the ac fan?

3. With the v6 e fan obviously being larger than the ac fan that's in now, ac temp should stay the same if not blow a little cooler, correct?

A few mods I have that are related to this topic are a jet 180 degree t-stat and tuner, so I can adjust what temp the fan turns on.

Thanks!

You may want to look into the Grand Cherokee fan. It pulls a lot of air and is very affordable. I have a Viper fan in my Dakota but it was not cheap. Just about all efans should pull air. It needs to pull air from in front of the grill through the condenser and radiator.

I was thinking the ac fan did pull air, and it makes sense. But I wanted to make sure before doing this. What year GC fan? Is it a direct fit and plug n play?

I doubt the connector matches up. Most truck efans will not pull much air since they are designed around a mech fan. Make sure whatever you put in has more cfm than stock.

How do I check to see what the cfm is for each fan?

It would have to be listed, not easy to find with an or fan. That GC one gets high marks. I think the Gen2 Viper fan is around $150 but requires 75A relay and temp controller, for reference. I believe the GC fan is more user friendly.

Thank you for your help, I'll look around on eBay and see what I can find. I'd really rather grab a fan that fits directly or with very little modification. It looks like the v6 on the Rams don't have a mechanical fan. So I would think that e fan should pull plenty of air. And by looking at the tabs it looks like it will slide right into place

That may be much easier. Hopefully I have not confused you.

Just stick with the V6 fan since it's plug and play, has more than enough cfm for cooling even in the desert, and you can get them cheap in the TYC brand from RockAuto.

I installed my fan a few days ago. So far no problems. Throttle response has improved slightly without the mechanical fan

Glad it went smoothly, I always prefer fans with built in shrouds. My Viper fan works very well but pulls a lot of amps and required a lot of custom wiring. Also lost coolant and washer fluid reservoirs.

It doesn't get much easier than the plug-n-play V6 fan. You wont have anything to worry about when it comes to cooling. I have been running the same fan on both my trucks down here in the south TX heat, and everything has been perfect. Good mod.

The fan is quieter than I expected. As long as it holds up I'll be happy. I'm not too worried about over heating. 180 t-stat and fan turn on temp at 195

I am going to do this mod, if you look at these fans the factory fan was 9 swept blades the aftermarket ones have only 5 blades and this could be why people complain that the aftermarket ones vibrate more.
This is a good upgrade just do plenty of research to make certain it's plug and play on an 09. I have read a ton on this subject and it has stood the test of time that it works.

I bought one last night, I got a factory 9 blade instead of the aftermarket 5 blade.
