So apparently Missouri is getting smarter with their emissions. Use to be able to just pass when they plugged into the obd port if no lights were on. Just failed my emissions on my truck with the sensors tuned out since I'm running JBA LT catless headers. Guy told me that it threw and unsupported cat con. & O2 unsupported programming error. He said I'll need to take it back to stock tune and to make sure that the front and rear O2 sensors don't read the same level, use some spark plug foulers on the upstream sensors. Drill 1/2 inch through foulers and screw sensors into foulers, then foulers into pipe. Anyway heard of this? He told me to come back in 1.5 hours and he'd do it for whatever I wanted to give him. I asked if he'd be interested, he didn't solicit, so I don't feel like he is B.S. He said he had to do it for his Chevy, just not sure if anyone has done that here.

JW can't know what Missouri is doing regarding emissions testing. But, what Ca does seems to "infect" the rest of the country eventually. As of 2017 the emissions testing/certification has two steps. 1. Inspect for any modification or change to factory installed/assembled intake or exhaust. If modified, must have CARB sticker # that is specific to that part and applicable to that vehicle. Check for disconnected parts and/or program mods. If any are found, do not run smog test. Tell customer to repair to factory original. Several issue have come with this change. 1. Some smog techs have no idea what is stock or modified on all vehicles. 2. Some techs will fail the inspection step because they believe a smog part is missing or has been compromised. I changed the valve covers on on my 87 GN. Failed inspection this year for missing PVC crossover system on factory valve covers. Took my factory valve covers down and had to show that there was no factory PVC cross over and the aftermarket valve covers are installed exactly the same as the factory covers. Ran test and passed with better numbers than some new cars.
JW I hate to say this but if any of these socialist AH that are running for President get in,,,,this kind of Ca socialist BS will be Federal. Excuse the long answer rant. Fitz

No visual inspection. All handled through obd hookup

Got it, yep they are comparing factory vehicle data base to car and/or asking the car for smart codes that reflect changes from factory setting. That is where Ca was about 5 years ago.

Somewhat unrelated.. but when I was stationed in Germany, Bavaria, you made an appointment to drop your car off for inspection and came back 2-3 days later to pick it up depending on repairs. They’d have of you sign a form agreeing to have them fix anything that needed fixing. It took getting used to their honor system. In the end, they made certain foreigners didn’t drive junk on the autobahn. I’m not saying I agree with their system, but at the same time safety was priority #1 on their roads. It was a double edged sword / love hate relationship to say the least...

So I did have him do the recommended mod. He also sealed up an exhaust leak and checked my diff fluid.

He said that the ******** from CA did sell MO the new software about a year ago. Based on that, do you think I should be ok with this mod?

Well hard to answer accurately. We don't know what parts of the ca software will be used and how they will apply it. For example Ca uses the state air resource board (CARB) to approve aftermarket mods. They also advise the State regarding changes in the market, such as tuning that they believe are air resource violations. Ca smog certification software will not allow any change to factory spark, fuel or air settings that deviate from factory approved and submitted specs. Or any change in program that they say increases carbon or other gas outputs. MO may allow it. The program that runs on the Ca shop systems is now linked to the the state and updates and changes are sometimes received monthly. Frankly I can only tell you what my guy has shared with us and warned us about. My take on your mod is see what happens on your next cycle. What did the guy that did your mod tell you regarding your next certification. Good luck JW always hate to see this socialist 'we know better" crap from Ca leaking out to other states. Fitz

The sparkplug foulers trick used to be fairly common. If you do a search on here, you'll probably even find a how-to with parts needed to do it.

I’m in CA. I did that spark plug defauler on all four O2 sensors on my titan. No cats and no check engine light. Passed smog with flying colors.

Just failed emissions again for the 02 sensors not being ready. I've driven a ton, I'm baffled. Executing one of the drive cycle resets seems unrealistic in my area. Any ideas?
