what's that little copper tab on the engine end of the cord? Does it fold out or in?

One other question. I think I'm going to remove the oil filter to get at the plug. But even though most of the oil will be in the pan, at 12 quarts of oil, I'm still worried about how much is going to come out with the filter.

you shouldn't have to remove the oil filter to plug the cord into the block heater.

If you really must, not much oil will drip out from the engine, just don't tip over the oil filter. If you plan on changing the oil yourself, get yourself a oil filter plug:
