Hi All.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500, 3.6 Penastar engine.
When towing my light travel trailer (2514 pounds or 1140 Kg Dry), quite often the engine light comes on, I'm kicked out of tow mode and the truck shifts into limp mode. I pull over when safe to, shut of truck off, restart the truck, and go merrily on my way, with the engine light on. It has never shifted back into limp mode with the engine light on. I have also had it happen when I forgot to operate the truck in tow mode. Usually the next day, the engine light is off. I've taken the truck into my dealership and the mechanics have found the stored codes. P 2098 and P1915 are two of the codes I remember, The O2 sensor has been replaced and I don't have remote start. One mechanic says it might be something to do with the trailer causing the issue. I'm taking it into the dealership again on Monday, for scheduled maintenance, and will tell them again about the engine light and getting kicked into limp mode. Any suggestions?

I think your mechanic is clueless. I highly doubtful the trailer itself is causing a DTC error code. Unless he meant that do to the extra load from pulling the trailer is causing a rich or lean condition effecting the O2 sensors. The O2 sensors after the cats are for comparison to the O2 sensors before. Another one of the sensors may be going bad? When was the last tune up?

This is what came up this time.

Scanned vehicle for codes and found P0369-camshaft position sensor intermittent-bank 1 sensor 2 code stored, followed diagnostic tree, will require camshaft (CMP) bank 1 sensor 2 replacement and re-check.

Replaced bank 1, cam sensor
Relearned cam crank, road tested ok

Hopefully they found the problem and it's fixed. I would hook your trailer up and take it for a test tow sooner than later. If you get a CEL or it goes into limp mode, call the dealer or go there with the trailer to see if they want to scan the truck while it's towing.

Did the camshaft position sensor replacement fix your issue? I’m having the same thing happen

When you say issue have you verified that same code is coming up? Or are saying the same issue is the limp mode? If you haven't you really need to find out the exact engine code that is occurring as there are probably a hundred things that could trigger the limp mode.
