Hello all, I'm new to this whole thing but from reading some of the other threads, I think i can find answers to my questions. So here it goes...

I've got a 2011 ram 1500 Sport with stock dual exhaust. I want to put in a 14" Magnaflow and I've looked into the Mufflex system already. My question is, Which way is least expensive? My local shop where i had my last magna flow installed on my 03 Ram did for $200, but he says it'll be about $250+ to do it on my 2011 cause of the extra pipe. Should i just go with the Mufflex? is it worth it? Should I order the Muffler myself and have a shop install? Help!
Thanks in advance.

Is the Mufflex longer? And how long ago was the install on the 03? Prices have increased.

I'd get the whole thing from the local shop. They can usually get stuff cheaper than you can and if they make money on the sale of the muffler, they can package up a deal for ya that will be cheaper than you buying the muffler and them putting it on.

Mufflex you can do in your driveway. Just unbolt the factory muffler and slide in the mufflex and bolt it up. Muffler from a shop they'll have to add pipe before the muffler if it's a different size than the factory unit. Whereas the mufflex is built to fit. I would go mufflex unless labor and muffler at the shop comes out to under $300

mufflex shipped will be right around $250, so its 50/50. going to the shop it will be welded in and you won't have to worry about any exhaust leaks at the joints, and the 3" clamp that comes with the mufflex kit is worthless, so you would have to buy a new formed clamp to get ti to stay on.

I just installed a 14" this weekend and the front clamp did not do the job, had to get and add a better clamp to seal it. The clamp that came with it would not compress far enough to tighten and seal

Thanks for the responses... I think i'm gonna go ahead and have a shop do it then... I keep trying to do the math and like Quietpeen said, it'll probably come out to around the same price, minus the hassle if it leaks.

As far as performance, can i expect the same going with the 14" magnaflow shop installed, then with the mufflex? I know they use magnaflow, but is there something else i'm missing?

Also... Anyone have problems with drone? I'm leaving the resonators on, but will I have more drone going with the 14" than with a larger one? I had an 18" on my 03 and i want a little more growl this time, but i've been reading that some have a drone noise cause of the mds.

Are you saying you have no drone at all with just a muffler swap or are you just saying the MDS kick in/out is not noticeable? Did you keep or scrap you OEM resonators? What about the OEM crimp just B4 the muffler, is that still there or did you pipe it? What about the OEM catalytic converters and headers, are they still there or did you go a different [aftermarket] route?

Just curious...

if you are like most of us..........do the mufflex, because at some point you'll get a wild hair up your butt and want to change, and it makes it easy. :D

I'm saying the mds switch isn't too noticeable. I'm also saying there isn't much drone with the muffler either. All i did was put on a mufflex kit. everything else exhaust wise is stock. I think my 05 daytona with the borla exhaust had more drone.

Thanks everyone for your input. I pulled the trigger today and went with the shop installed 14". I did a little drive on the highway to test it out and it sounds pissed off, i love it. The guy at the shop ended up taking a few bucks off, so not bad and i have the peace of mind that its welded. Thanks again.

Easiest way to is to make a Photobucket account and use the IMG code on the bottom of the pictures super easy
