I recently bought a 2014 black express. I had it for a few days before I noticed what apperared to be paint specs all over the truck with a really bad section on the bed(looks like paint/dirt settled in the clear coat before it dried). I took it back to the dealer and they had their body shop guy look at it. He buffed out the bad area but didn't touch the rest of the truck. I noticed this when I picked it up and restated that there were white specs all over the truck, three weeks later they took it back to the detailer. I picked it up yesterday and while it looks better there are still a lot of specs in the paint. The detailer told my he just clay bared it and had waxed it. Anyway im tired of dealing with the dealership, what it the best to get the crap out of my paint? Scrub the hell out of it with a clay bar or have it mechanically buffed/polished?

Pictures? Your probably not going to buff them out. I would take it to a different dealer. I had solvent pop and trash in my paint, still have some trash. They stripped the entire roof and repainted it due to the solvent pop. The trash they nibed and buffed. The body guy took me through the process and they take down the trash with 3000 grit and then buff it. I would never try this only allow a profecional. if you don't have it done under warranty chrysler won't warranty the repair ( if it's warranty repair its warranty for life on the repairs). My suggestion to you is to clean your truck really good and use masking tape Mark off the areas you want fixed and take it to the dealer and say here is what I found and I want it fixed. Luckily I found mine before 1000 miles and they couldn't argue it even a little bit.

Without seeing pictures, this sounds like overspray. That comes off with Claybar and lubricant for it. After, you may want to polish it, definitely protect it back up, as the clay will remove protection from the dealer.

The SCG Pro Claybar Essentials Kit is a good place to start.

Definitely need some pictures. I missed the white spec part. They buffed Too much, no need to worry there is a 5 year warranty on your paint . They need to re shoot that whole section of the truck. They tired to buff mine down but they had 1 white spec and some distortion and the stripped the roof and re painted the whole thing. Good luck I would start with a different dealer if one is close. Or get a quote from a outside shop and take it into your dealer.

Here is a picture of how it looked when I first took it in, if you look just to the right of the suns reflection you can see a line as if it was masked off. you can also see the white specs.

Yeah black truck in the sun it's hard to tell. I can see the line, what side was buffed were the Suns reflection is or the smooth side opposite of the reflection? And did it look like either of my pictures before you took it in? The best way I can disprove the solvent pop is bubbles were the paint didn't didn't stick due to contamination. And the trash or dust in the paint isn't a bubble it's just a ruff spot that is kind of like a bubble just not smooth all the way around.

I can see the white specs in the section were the sun is and if that is were they buffed it, it looks really ruff. I could be wrong but I don't see that being overspray, possibly a good clear coat safe rubbing compoud or polishing compound could bring that back some. Anything you use needs to be clear coat safe

I will also add there are numerous 2014 express Rams that are black that are having issues, that's another reason I think it is something more than something easy such as overspray.

That picture was prior to the detailer touching it, I had however already clay bared the entire truck. You can tell he used a machine on this spot because there are some swirl marks. He said he used the clay bar on it yesterday, that's twice now and the specs are still there. The paint is smooth to the touch. There is larger dealership about 45 mins away, thinking of taking it there.

The bigger dealer sounds like a good idea. Hopefully they have a good body shop, I got lucky with mine my dealer doesn't have a body shop so they have a very nice local body shop that speed bakes and has a really quality setup.

We're the white specs same color of the truck to start off with or always been white?

So the other dealership was a bust, basically wouldn't do anything because I have already dealt with another dealership. They suggested I call Chrysler direct which I did while I was still there. Got a rep on the phone told him what was going on. Long story short I had to take it to a detailing shop to get an estimate. One kindly declined to touch my truck because they didn't want to be held liable if they made the problem worst. Another shop quoted 600 to do a full buff/polish. So now I get to wait for a Chrysler case worker to call me back.

Alright so took my truck back to the dealership for the third time now, came back from the body shop looking exactly the same!!!!! imma bout to lose my ****. The Chrysler rep called me just now asking me how it turned out, I told him it looked exactly the same. The detailer will not use a buffer on it because he doesn't want to be held responsible for damaging it further. I dont know what else to do.....

Got a call from the dealership, apparently the digital imaging dept at Chrysler can't see the defect in the pictures that the dealer sent them so they won't do anything. The dealer said he was trying to help me out but there isn't anything else he can do. Basically told me Chrysler says it acceptable to have some defects in the paint, and that these spots may eventually go away with washing and waxing. He said it's almost winter and being in Washington on a navy base I'm going to get all kinds of blemishes in the paint.

I told him what if all those spots got worst? He said at that point they could probably warranty the paint. I re explained to him how I discovered these spots 2 days after i bought the truck when I washed and waxed it at which point it only had like 100 miles on it. He told me they looked at all the black cars/truck on the lot and discovered many of them had similar problems. I have been very patient to this point and have given them multiple opportunities to make it right, I dont know what else to do. last thing im going to do is accept it.

Ask if he can give it to you in writing and then escalate it to Chrysler yourself directly.

If chrysler is refusing to repair the paint properly you can retain a atty and file a warranty resolution dispute. There are attys that will do the I only get paid if you get paid thing. If you are to this point pm me and I can provide you the info of the atty I used to resolve my paint issue on my 11.

Its a long drawn out process, mine took over a year to resolve, but in the end chrysler paid.

Hoping it doesn't come to that, but I will keep the in mind. Chrysler called this morning recommended I take it to a Chrysler certified body shop, closest one being two hours away.

Anyone know how to get a hold of Chrysler district managers? I tried googling but they are very elusive it seems. I called the body shop Chrysler recommended, they told me they have to take pictures and send them to Chrysler for approval. This has already been done, they can't see the issues in the pictures this is my problem. Going to start looking for an attorney I think.

maybe take multiple pictures from lots of different views Mark everything to draw there attention in the pictures, go to couple body shops get estimates and a written letter stateing the technical term for the problem is. Use multiple reputable body shops and send all of that in and state the next level is a lawyer. And all you want is your paint issues resolved.

Not sure if the helps but here is some contact us information off Rams web site
