That's how I wired my subs. I can't remember the model number of the amp I have but its pretty much the JL Audio amp that was made for the dual 10' JL Audio StealthBox and it sounds excellent, no LOC or PAC Audio doohickey-thing required. I may not be winning any bass-off competitions anytime soon but she sure thumps pretty hard. A lot more than I need.
All I used to utilize the factory sub connector as my input was first I pulled the whole wiring harness out of the plastic box that housed the factory sub. Next, being that I tried, prior to this installation, one of those Pioneer subs to replace the factory sub, I kept the two Metra connectors I had to buy to hook up that sub when I returned the Poineer to Crutchfield, I just took the factory sub-box connector and plugged it back in, then used the Metra connectors as a right and a left were one side went to one side of the speaker and the other connector went to the other side of the speaker.
I dunno, maybe the reason why I didn't need any help from either of those two other components was because I got with JL Audio and they gave me step by step instructions on how to adjust my amp that involved a volt meter and playing a specific sine-wave audio signal from my phone that was blue toothed to the radio at a specific volume which was to pin-point the exact moment of the protection circuit from the factory amp.
I can't really remember all the instructions but Im sure if you send an email to JL-Audio's tech support, they'll help you to pretty good. Lets just put it this way; Ive never been good setting up an amp the right way on my own but this dude was pretty helpful. My bass hits hard enough that I can't even blast the heavy bass tunes with the motor not running or the low-voltage protection circuit of the amp kicks in shutting it down...lol.
