Simple question ? I have a 2012 Ram Big Horn, Fenders are rusting out, Have a few quotes from local body shops for r & r plus repaint,
Now to keep costs down, i am considering removing & reinstalling new factory fenders, do i need to put a finish (paint or sealant) on them as i do not know when i will be able to book truck in for paint.

You definitely need to protect the metal, before you put the fender on

Order your new fenders and send them to the body shop for color match paint and install yourself.. See if the body shop will wrap them in their protective film so you do not scratch during install..

How much are you really going to save? I know the body shop I use can generally get parts for the same cost I can. All the cost is in prep and paint and those two things are most important.
