Guess I've only known dealers to carry by the barrel, the small mom and papa shop I worked in was far from specializing in diffs but we had parts within a day or two and could order whatever the customer wanted to run for fluids which was usually RP and that was avalible from parts store down the street. It just blows my mind that they can't come close to prices and keep some of the stress off you guys in finding parts and fluids.

It would be nice... :)
I think it has more to do with the consumer being able to search and find prices that are close to or the same as the shops wholesale costs. Making it difficult for shops to mark up and make money when supplying the parts.

My local shop is awesome, so I am happy to pay top dollar for the labor. But I can save a couple bucks by getting the parts myself.

Why bother running Royal Purple since you have to do a break in change anywho?

Break in with Royal Purple, then run with Royal Purple. Am I overdoing it? :)

Seriously though, my differential guy told me some horror stories of differential jobs done with bad gear oil, and how the differentials were shredded in a matter of weeks... Apparently, the oil supplier had the wrong, or diluted **** in the barrels that were sent to the shop labeled as quality gear oil (I forget the brand)!

There were 3 ruined differentials before they checked the contents of the barrel. It was sent our for testing, and sure enough, bad gear oil. Diluted with water or something like that.

I will never get an oil change off any kind with anything out of a big barrel. This is another reason I don't use oil change services like Jiffy Lube, because I don't trust what is in that big barrel. Maybe I am paranoid.

Nope not parinoia, if I didn't see with my own eyes the oil that was put into bulk storage containers at the place i used to get oil changed at I would be in the same boat doing it one quart at a time. I do that now anyways so kinda a moot point.

^^^ Cool, so I am only moderately paranoid, with a justified cause.

Sounds more like you are a smart consumer. I agree that it's best hunting down prices and finding the best deals. These are our toys...we all don't have tons of money, every dollar counts and we need to make sure it's done right the first time around... Too many mediocre shops popping up lately. No harm in being picky and a bit paranoid.

Exactly bro! Thanks. I look forward to hearing the good news when your gears are finally done!!!
I am still in my 500 mile break in period, so I haven't had much fun yet... I keep taking the long way home, and driving around for no reason, just to get done with the break in!

That's going to frustrate the hell out of me. I don't put many miles on my truck. Going to take me forever before I can have some fun! I'm barely over 10k miles now and I'm almost at the 2 year mark. Oh well. May have to use your technique and start taking the scenic route home.

Hey least short trips give you a good reason to opening it up once and a while to blow the carbon out. Just hang on a little tighter with those new gears lol.

OK gears and differential are in...does feel that it has more kick but since I can't really test it yet I can't give an honest opinion. Install seems to have gone well. No clunks or major whine that I can notice. So that has me very happy...glad this headache is over. So if anyone in Miami is interested the shop is called Jeepers 4x4 -Gus.

Thanks for the heads-up bud.
I'm gonna look them up when the time comes for me to change out my gears.
