Most of the shops in my area wanted anywhere from $250-350 for the muffler installed. I figured for that (or less) I could buy a welder, the muffler, and spare pipe.
I bought the Chicago Electric Flux-Core from Harbor Freight. First time welding so it wasn’t pretty, but I think it’ll be fairly effective.
I cut the tips off the stock muffler so I could keep it as a slip-on. 3” pipe slid directly into the inlet and I had to butt weld the stock tip there. On the back side, I had 2 1/2” pipe that slid straight into the Flowmaster, one tip was butt welded and the other will partially slide in before you weld. If you do this, I suggest cutting as close to the muffler as possible so you leave yourself room to work.
I was nervous because all of the bolt on exhausts have some kind of bend in them but I went ahead and lined it up and so it’s all straight and fits decent. I didn’t get to put a hanger on yet but it’s pretty firm in there. I’ll get some exhaust strap and run it.
All in all, very pleased with the process and outcome.
