I smelled gear oil when I got out of the truck after it started vibrating. Nothing was taken apart. And no it's not burnt.

Well considering that the front DS wasn't connected and it was still causing me problems I assume that wouldn't change anything if I was to take it out

Hmmm i don't know why it would smell more now then any other time unless it was burnt, maybe its your wheel bearings locking up and you just smelled it becuase of the slow leak you have. One of my wheel bearings was locking up, so it can happen

Well maybe it's just because I already have the other shaft out

Idk of it's different on a 44 but it takes a specific angle to get my collar in and out so for it to have been like that idk lol, check the play in the inner bearin yet? What about the bushing in the end of outer axle shaft

When you pull the inner axle out there's a needle bearin on the left side of the CAD housing looks like this,

And then there should be a bushing that slides over the end of the inner axle, but is pressed into the outer axle. But yea it looks good, I don't see the problem beingn in the actual axle yet lol

I'll check that out. Left as in towards the chunk or towards the wheel?
And the bushing you mean like what the shift fork moves to engage 4x4?

Yeah that's what I thought. I remember having a hard time getting the carrier out without damaging anything

No problem so at least you know your axle is still in good shape even after found out it was joints, just smart thinking on yours to quit driving it right away and limp it home
