Hey guys. I have a 2006 SCSB 1500 5.7 no mods. 265/70r17 tires. I currently get 16 avg mpg. Id like to get as much as possible but at least 18. What are you suggestions mod wise. I dont have big budget and will be relying on bday and xmas for mod stuff lol. So its a long term project. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Drive slower. Most mods won't really make much difference and if they do it takes a very log time to recoup the investment.

when i first got my truck, i tested out the mpg gauge i had, it stated i was getting 19mpg, now of course it was my first "newer" truck (05 dodge ram rumble bee) so i took it easy, how i get around 15.1, but i am about to do a full tune up so we will see if that makes a difference, oh and that 19mpg was me taking it very very very easy and use the big toe on the gas pedal lol

Maybe do ele fan mod ? That will free up some power. I do a lot of highway driving and I notice a difference with an intake and exhaust. U will need a power programmer too

Yeah it's really hard to go easy on it. They take off like crazy and half the time you don't even know it! What's the best intake to get? I've heard of people saying that K&N are king, but others say the oil-style aren't good for the engine.
Thanks guys.

S&B makes a really nice looking CAI. They show testing that their oiled filter is just a few 10ths less from stock .... 99.4% vs 99.7% I believe, look it up though.... If you want CAI air flow AND better filtration, look at Volant PowerCore (aka Donaldson type) dry filter.

You can't go wrong with K&N and Volant. But generally, all cai's have the same functionality, and expect 0-10mpg increase.

With light use of the throttle, a good CAI will net you about 1 to 2 MPG increase. The problem is the extra horsepower and sound makes it hard to keep your foot out of it. I love my K&N CAI kit.

As far as cais go. How is the airaid mod tube? I like the price better haha. Woukd I see an increase? Ive heard oil filters can screw up the motor.

Also does a 2" level with the bilsteins affect.mpg?

It will affect hwy mileage to a degree...the higher ride represents more resistance to moving through the air.

Get a programmer

My '07 was bone stock up until a month or so ago. Milage sucked at best. 14/17 tops -maybe.

Bought a Cortex and loaded the 91 tune. On my drive home the truck hit 21! I'm averaging 16/21 now. I do need to run premium gas, but over time I'm saving $ because of the gains.

Not only that, the truck is night and day to drive. Better is every respect. Power, trans, and MPG.

I just switched to an InTune as I'm doing some bigger mods now. I think that the canned tunes are just a little zippier in the Diablosport.

A word of warning though. A programmer is a strong gateway mod. You might not be able to quit once you start...:D

before I leveled and put some a 1" body lift on my truck I got 15 normaly. Maybe a little better on highway.

I get between 12.7 and 13 going to work. Do I care...nope. I kept 33's but they were a little heavier. Think smart when doing mods, big tires don't do anything but cost ya more. Anytime you make something higher there is more air to hit and it will make milages go down. However you bought a hemi and a V8 so if you want gas milage you need a civic.

most mods don't do much for mpgs.. things run more efficiently at higher rpms, but nothing will really make a dramatic difference. I have 37s and I get around 10 mpgs because I drive very carefully. never passing 2000 rpms. if I don't pass 1800 I can get 11.

I wonder if some sort of thin aluminum belly pan under the truck, to reduce drag, and possibly some sort of panels built in to divert the air down to create a small amount of lift, thus making the truck theoretically weigh less going down the road? Less drag and less vehicle weight would mean more fuel mileage.

Well as far as I can calculate, im getting anywhere from 16 to 17 in town. I never go above 48mph due to in town roads and I never go above 2k rpms and on average I keep it at about 1400 rpms. Computer says im getting 16.1. Guess well see with my next fill up.
Im not freaking out Bout mpgs. Just wanted to see how good she can get.
So any thoughts on the airaid mod tube instead of a full cai. Ive seen many people say the stock air box is efficient just not the tube. So pair that with the airaid tube and a k&n drop in.. what do you think?
I think im gonna stick with 265"s instead of going bigger. However by at least Christmas ill have the bilsteins in.

Get a commuter car. I was spending a little over $500. A month just in gas for my truck when it was my DD. Back in January I went and bought me a 2011 dodge avenger. And I spend about $450 a month on gas, insurance, and car payment. So not only am I saving money. But I also dont have to put as many miles on the truck. A tank of gas on my truck now last me over a month now.
