Gas pump keeps shutting off when fueling. Clean or replace evap filter?

Check for a kink in your fuel filled hose. Had the exact symptoms you described after getting my Expedition fuel pump replaced. They kinked the hose… fuel flowing from pump faster that it could flow through the hose into the tank.

I had the same problem a couple of years after I began driving my new 2018 RAM 1500. I eventually took it to the dealer and they said it was the vent valve and replaced the entire tank. 4 months ago (140K miles), the problem came back. I found a YT video on this forum where the guy said to run a 3/8”-1/2” hydraulic hose down to the rollover valve on top of the tank to unstick the valve. I only got the hose 1/2 way down the fill neck and hit something hard, maybe the evap air filter? I ran the hose in 6-8 time and hit the same obstruction. Whatever it did worked because I’ve had no fueling issues since. Maybe someone on the forum can tell is what is in the line between the tank and the fill tube?
You ran the hose down the filler neck?

I've been busy, so I haven't had a chance to tackle this problem yet. This weekend I did some googling on the problem, and got a better understanding of what may be happening with the fuel tank and its associated parts. I watched this video Youtube Link and this video Youtube Link

Having watched those, I may take some fish tape and see if I can move the rollover valve, or unstick it if that's what the issue is. May or may not be this week depending on how busy I get.

I haven't had a chance to mess with this yet. But I did pick up some Sea Foam at Autozone the other day hoping that the issue was the rollover valve, and that maybe some funk was causing it to stick. I poured it in the tank, and later while getting gas I had no issues with the pump kicking off. Not sure if that was just a fluke. I'll update after my next fill up.

Took some fish tape and ran it down the filler neck. Once it hit resistance, I started moving it back and forth and heard a click like the rollover valve coming unstuck.

Got gas right afterwards and the pump didn’t click off constantly. Hopefully this fixed it.

How large a fish tape did you use, and what about the loop at the end?

The smallest fish tape I have is about 1/4" with a large loop, IIRC.

I believe it was quarter inch.

I grabbed the fish tape from my buddy’s truck. I don’t believe it had a loop. You could probably use a wire hangar too.
