Hello,

I am wanting to upgrade my gauge cluster from the basic 3" to the premium 7" in my 2016 1500 5.7L. Do I need to get the used premium cluster programmed before install or will it just plug and play and the miles and hours read correctly?

I would like to upgrade to the 7" cluster in my '20 1500 Classic. I have Alpha OBD, and looking over the known successful upgrades/changes, I only see 1 change regarding this mod. Is this correct? What about actual mileage and hours (does the truck record hours?) I will not be changing the radio or adding navigation, at least it's not on my list right now, is the "vehicle settings menu 7" EVIC:" all that's needed? TIA.

No, you'll need to program mileage and engine hours as well.

If you don't care about the miles and hours it will work fine.

This is true and even legal but if you want to sell it in the future you should record the mileage and engine hours variance in writing. Selling it without the variance disclosure is fraud...

For sure, if you're in a pinch or don't have the money... record it all.

Does anyone have links or instructions on how to program hours/miles with Alpha OBD? I may be pulling the trigger on a 7" EVIC locally.

I still haven't sourced a new EVIC, the seller stopped contacting me. In the meantime, I looked at my engine hours and they seem to have stopped recording. With over 47kmi, my drive hours are 29 and idle hours are 383 (no, I didn't write that down backwards!). Anyone experience this or have any Idea's? I posted in a thread about engine hours and no have no replies so far.

I've heard if it before, but I think it was only after swapping clusters. I "think" the info can be read from another module on the truck too and updated in the new cluster that way.

I've been watching the numbers, they are incrementing. It seems that the drive hours have reset themselves or been reset at some point (recently). If anyone knows of another module where those numbers are stored or can be obtained, please share!
