Get this,the wife said I can order a new 2018 1500 or a 2500, give me some pointers.

I/we bought a 2015,1500,4x4,Quad Cab,short bed Hemi a bout 8 months ago, with 11,500 miles.
It has been a joy to own.
I have done a lot of stuff to it.
Now, I have the opertunity to get a new 2018 but I can't decide on a 1500 or a 2500.
If it is a 2500, I would get the Cummins, a 1500, I would stay with the 5.7.
The 2500 would be 9 inches longer and I can fit it in the garage.
This truck would probably be my last brand new truck, I am 58 but maybe not my last truck.
Wants and needs are a big thing, I am just having a hard time figuring out the two)))))))
Help, what is a old guy to do?

Do you RV or plan to? Do you dude as a daily driver around town with short trips and extended periods between long highway drives or working motor?

Either way, get a Longhorn. If you don't need the extra payload or towing capacity, stick with the 1500, otherwise, 2500.

If this is your last brand new truck, go with the Longhorn (interior color options) or Limited (black only) trim, the leather in the seating is up there with the Bently's. Many folks don't realize, but the Longhorn trim can be ordered with out the filigree in the seating surfaces.

FYI on the Cummins, awesome engine and I love mine. They're not well suited for short trips after short trips. They need to stretch out so the emission system can regenerate itself and for that, it needs to run on the freeway so the engine has a reasonable load.

My Ram now is a Laramie, that is what the new ones trim level would be.
I have leather and really like it.
I drive 55 miles a day to and from work, I get 20/21 miles to the gallon with the Hemi now, I would miss that with a 6.4, I think the Cummins will get that all day long?
I would stay stock on the tires and wheels, I may go with 18s on the 3/4, more rubber to make the ride better.
I pull a 14 foot utility trailer with two Polaris 850 quads that the wife and I enjoy.
The 1500 now pulls them like they are not even hooked on the rear of the truck)))
The new 1500 will have the 4 corner air suspension, no sagging with a 300 pound trailer tongue on the hitch, the 2500 would not even notice 300 pounds on a hitch.
As for camping in the future, I really doubt it, been there, done that 20 years ago.

I drive like a old grandpa to and from work, I would probably get 25 MPG.
Does any 2500 owners have the rear air leveling suspension?

My neighbors got into my new Longhorn (non filigree) to check it out and raved about it, he went home and came back with a magazine showing a Bentley and was talking about how my tuck looked better than the Bentley...

That seat in your Laramie is pleather, as in "bonded leather" to get real leather you have to get a Longhorn or Limited.

I just can't warm up to the 6.4 if the wife is letting me have a Cummins))))))
To get that fancy leather from the expensive cows, you have to get the Laramie LongHorn, no?
I did not think a LongHorn had leather, unless you ordered it on the check list.
I have been on RamTrucks.com a quite a bit the last few days.

Don't forget if you end up with a gasser to pick up a catch can.

I love my new 2500 and mines just a tradesman. If i can swing it, I'll never own a half ton truck again. If you need the Cummins, by all means go for it, but let me tell you, my 3.73 geared 6.4 has A LOT of juice. It's all i need and then some for the weights I'm towing. Good luck.
