My biggest regret was getting rid of my ‘16 1500 with the 5.7. Looking to get into a 5th gen 1500 with the 5.7. I’ve searched the forums and I’ve found out to stay away from the E torque . Are there any other things I should look for ? Also is having a catch can still recommended with these engines as well as redline 5w30 with the royal purple filter ? Had those on my ‘16 and was a hot topic back then in the 4th gen forums . Thanks in advance for any advice and am looking forward to getting back into a Ram.

The engine hasn't changed since 09,so yes Redline and Royal Purple filters are still good to use,and so is a catch can

It's on the table that every ram 1500 with a hemi will have e torque from now on. Now just maybe they figure it out, but point being if you find a new hemi with no e torque it may just be the best trucks ever made and the newest version. I wouldn't wait though, I don't even know if they still have any non e torques so maybe you buy used. The RP filters seam to be on the brink, but if you get a new hemi we all get you straight with some lube strategies.

Also 2026 do come with 10 year warranty, so the hurricane is a legit choice, plus I must admit they are popular on the board. I'd rather have the hurricane or a used non e torque then a new e torque.

2022 is the last year you can get if you don't want etorque. Took me over a month of searching everyday to find my 2022 last year. It's getting harder to find one with lower miles and no etorque. So don't sleep on it if that's the way you want to go.

That being said, the etorque system is a few years old now. We really don't hear about a ton of issues with it. But there have been a few threads here. I know a couple guys from work with etorque and they claim they don't even notice it minus the stupid stop/start.

@Burla makes a good point too, Hurricane might not be a bad way to go with that warranty. Haven't heard of many issues with the I6 either. That HO is pretty stout too!

FWIW, I am very happy with my 2022 vs my 2016. Feels like a completely different truck in a lot of ways. I am surprised they are rated at the same power, my 2022 feels a heck of a lot faster than my 2016. And yes my new truck doesn't have 35s and isn't lifted yet... But I remember how my 2016 drove stock, left it like that for a long time before I started modding it.

Catch can, Redline 5w-30 and RP 20-820 filter for life on all Hemi engines!
