Going with larger tire on stock rims

I have the stock 20" rims using 275/60R20. I'm curious to know if anyone has ever gone with a wider tire but maintain overall outer circumference close to the stock tire size. I guess I'm looking to get a slightly wider tire to have a little more rubber gripping the road.

Sure, I've done that on lots of different cars over the years. I didn't do that on a Ram truck, but the concept is the same. Just know that there are limits as to how wide you can go. This might make a good read for you...

If you are in snow country or get snow, go with a taller narrower tire.

I've got 285/65R20 LT's on mine with BFG KO2's and love them, for my summer tires.
I sit over 1" higher on them vs. stock.
Great tires and perfectly balanced.

as long as the rim width is within the tire’s compatible width range, it will work just fine.

I have 37x12.5 tires on the factory 20” chrome Laramie wheels.

I have 305/55/20 on a aftermarket rim, but they are identical 20x9 0- offset. Thats a smidge taller and nearly 2” wider

I run a 305/50/r20 on a stock rim and love it. Ther is a small rub at full lock, but I don't notice it. I love the stance it gives the truck and the look gets compliments more than I'd ever thought.

Do you have the 8" wide or 9" wide stock wheels?

Didn't know there was a 20x8, very good call out.
Also the look you desire and how to get there may be dependent on whether you have fender flares and if so how big they are. I have no flares and this is how they sit in my wheel wells.

Thanks for the info guys. I did some research but for the tires available in the larger size, they were a little out of my price range for now. I ended up getting the stock size and even that price was hard to swallow. The last time I bought tire was pre-covid and they were for a Durango. Luckily TireRack offers a 0% for 6 months payment plan to help take the sting out of coughing up $1000+.

rule of thumb is no more than 3% change in circumference. I have done this on other vehicles and plan to do on my 20" rims for 2015 Laramie. Use a tire comparison calculator to determine difference. Not the change is size will impact the speedometer and odometer.....some calculators will calculate distance and speed differences..... Honest Officer.

That tire size is considered low profile. They wear out faster than the mileage stated on them. I tried cooper discoverer ats3 and love the results. Gets 40 below here in northen minnesota and they still ride smooth and quiet. Helps to rotate every oil change. Got 27000 on mine so far with a little more than 50 percent wear. Maybe to many burnouts contribute to that extra wear. Oops! LOL!
