was in a drive through earlier today and someone apparently thought my rear bumper was too nice and decided it needed to be brought down a peg or two. the driver said his brake pedal had ice on it causing his foot to slip and slam on the throttle. visible damage isn't bad, just made the middle of my rear bumper flat and pulled up the plastic a bit. i think the bumper and hitch took most of the force. the guy that hit me had a bit more damage but mainly the plastic on the front and some paint damage. it was an older Ram 1500 so thankfully being another truck we hit bumper on bumper, pretty sure if it were a car it'd have been a lot worse

going to the dealer tomorrow to have it looked at and make sure there's no hidden damage but i think it's just the bumper which the dealer quoted me $500 + an hour labour.

here's a pic, kinda crappy since it's dark out now. i did not have the trailer or ball attached at the time(was on the way to get the trailer) so just ignore it

I dint know in your case if it would of helped or not. But that's why I keep the hitch in. I have too many idiots ride right up on me. It's terrible what it does to the front of there cars.

yeah i could have been a lot worse. something funny happened about an hour after i picked up the trailer and when i turned the truck back on i couldn't engage 4WD or tow/haul, not even the light on the buttons would work. not sure if it's related or maybe just a little glitch with all the electronics in these trucks. i checked fuses that looked like they might be related and all were fine so i started it up again and everything was back to normal. i was in 4WD when i got hit but everything was fine for the ride home so i'm thinking it was just a glitch

well if i had it in he wouldn't have made it to my bumper. i think what happened was he hit the bumper first which flattened it out a bit so it became even with the hitch and both took the force. i have a rubber cap for it which got ripped apart so it definitely took some of it. i used to keep it in for exactly that reason but i also found it caused me to get hit more in parking lots so i have mixed feelings about leaving it in

I took a trip up to Minnesota and the people up there were driving crazy (and people say texas is like driving with a bunch of teenagers) and riding up on my ass and I got tired of it and pulled over and put the biggest hitch I had in my truck on :flipthebird: I would keep my hitch in for that reason but the truck won't fit in the garage with a hitch.

Sorry to hear that dude. I had a lady rearend my old Silverado. While I had my hitch in. She bent my bumper up and bent the frame down 3" behind the tires. It did a lot more damage to her though. Busted her headlights grill bumper cover and radiator.

yeah i'm really hoping there's no frame damage and it's just the bumper. took a look and didn't see anything but it's kinda hard to tell. will see what the dealer says i guess

dealer looked at it today and said everything is fine just needs a new bumper. i think i'm going to wait till spring to order one since everyone seems to be driving like they've never seen snow before and i'd hate to put a new bumper on only to get hit again.

i also had them change the oil since it was almost ready anyway and they did something interesting. first change i got they put 10k km on the sticker for my next change but this time around they put 15k km on it. not sure why they are doing it different now and i know the manual says 16k km so they are actually still under. i'll probably still do it at 10k km anyway
