So......Got a sh*tty nignt's sleep thanks to calcite projections ramming through the youngun's tender gums. Managed to make the 10:30 at the bank to finalize payment for the new TT (yep, we're going for it) after getting all of the necessary gear together for the 2 day at the dealership's campground and WHAM! Some moron at the bank screws the pooch and now we've got an "unavoidable " hold on the funds until the 18th. Damned idiots. Sorry ya'll, no pics til next week. Wife had to firmly remind me where I was so I excused myself to the out of doors and shared my opinion of the bank staff with a bush that happened to be hanging around outside. He happened to agree with me totally and intimated that this isn't the first time he's heard of this happening. Called the dealership and they're cool witn it all, wish I could say the same. To quote the illustrious Ray Wylie Hubbard, "Patience is a virtue that I don't possess.". Headed to the firing range tomorrow. This too shall pass.

Tuned in... for the record I would do it and not be too worried I towed my grandpas 29 footer without a WDH about 2 hours on interstate and it was fine I think some people are paranoid. Is it ideal? NO. Is it legal? maybe but cutting close. Would I try it? YES.

@ Pippin. ...My wife and just recently bought a trailer slightly bigger than yours....technically 31 ft. .but from bumper to tongue it's closer to 35...We are also a few pounds heavier, but I also tow well within my GVWR and OEM tow ratings (2500 Cummins)...Like some others I am still playing with the WD hitch chains for better ride and traction....

@dmullen. ...The "bumper pull" type Xlite is HEAVY for its given size...dunno about the 5th wheels....Whatever you do spend extra for the High Country package....

Here's our rig setup (31RLT)

What size shoes does that big girl wear? Looks to be the same as yer 2500 from the pics. Beautiful rig. Already planning to trade in for a diesel when the note's paid off on this one.

The wheel size is 17" on the trailer but she has shorter and smaller tires...Dunno specific size..I can snap a pic tomorrow when I swing by storage....She is LONG though...Tough to see the trailer skin all the way down side even with the tow mirrors out...

@d..I'm using the factory receiver and the WD the trailer dealer threw into the deal...it's a torsion bar type with chain link adjustment...Haven't seen any manufacturer marking on it, I'll take another look and update...

OP- any update? What did you end up with?

Took delivery of the big girl today. Tech came by and set up the WD hitch. Took a couple of tries but I think we're gonna be straight for the haul to genpop on Wed. Weather was a little spitty so no chance for pics with the move in and all but I'll stick the truck in front of her tomorrow to at least give it some scope. First long haul next week, will put up a new thread with temps, mpg's, wkm's (white knuckle moments), etc... Yeefu@k¡nhaw ya'll.

I'll be watching for the thread. I am predicting a pretty uneventful experience and some smooth sailing :)

Yeah, the angle makes her look like a 26'. I'll get a better profile tomorrow when she's tethered. Lot of wood on the innards. Cozy but beefy. Insert appropriate prom date joke here.

Threw this pic up on the other thread. Probably the last post this one needs. Thanks for all of the help and info. You guys' brutal honesty and knowledge help alot of people keep their **** straight (hopefully). Mine included. Here's Gladys and the truck together at last. Still got to tweak the bag PSI and weight balance but it feels like we're at a good starting place. Gonna put everyone on the CAT next week when we start the first long leg. New thread then.uploadfromtaptalk1408591055311.jpg

Nice looking setup right there. Are you going to put it on the CAT scales loaded for camping or unloaded?

Why not just ditch the cap? Don't those things weight an extra 300lbs?

Ranch cap weighs in @ #140. That's where the mongrels go. Can't have 'em getting rain blasted at 60 mph. Can't have those shedding fiends mucking up my interior either. Gonna stick the whole rig on the CAT fully loaded so I know where I sit GCVWR wise. Last two we rolled by were temporarily OOC. Truck stops on old state highways that better times have now passed by. Rough numbers say we're still #1100 to the good and, even if we maxed out the GVWR for the trailer, we'd still be under (barely) GCVWR for the whole shabang. Been about 780 miles so far and averaging about 9-11 mpg depending on traffic and grade. Me and the fam had some heart to heart sit down conversation and as of last week Gladys and The Truck are now home sweet home. Yep. Full timers. Hopefully won't be any fat trimming after we get the scale weights. We'll see.......

full timers in their 30's...gotta love it. congrats

Sweet, we will be full time as soon as our second child arrives, we're part time right now while I do some upgrades on the Airstream so we can boondock way more. Plus I have a few more mods to do to the Ram.

And fulltiming in your 30's is easy if you do the math right. Way cheaper than you think.

:favorites13:

We averaged 13.1mpg all the way back from GA pulling the stream.

Congrats again.
