I'm installing my headers today and the last bolt on the second manifold is almost completely rounded due to rust. What tools have you guys used for the scenario in the past. I am going to pick up some of those special sockets with "teeth" designed to pull them out I just haven't used them in a while so I can not remember their effectiveness. Also, by just eyeballing the space it looks like the headers won't be able to slide into place without making some more room, will putting it up on jacks make more room? Thanks

Kyle

The headers should slip right on in from the top. Far as getting the rounded one out the easy out style socket yours talking abount should work, I dont think its enough room to use v grips

Jeez I didn't even think about dropping them in from up top. I was able to grab the bolt with the vice grips but I couldn't turn it. I broke 2 screw driver handles trying to use them as pry bars. Then I took a beer and dip break and tried to think smarter not harder.

Unfortunately I had to go to class so I'm going to kick it back off around 1630. We will see. I need my truck for work tomorrow so worst case I drive around with no headers...Just kidding

I spent most of my time taking the manifolds out from under the truck or through the tire well since I removed the cover I didn't even think about up top. Ill have to buy some common sense when I pick up the grip rite sockets.

haha. Once you get them in place, its easiest to get to the bolts while sitting in the fenders, but dropping them into place is easiest from up top.

And I'm being lazy and leaving the tires on.

Slacker. You will appreciate having those tires out of the way. It also helps to lift the front end and set it up on jack stands so that you can basically sit in the wheel well.

Removing the tires and fender liners will make your life so much easier.

On the passenger side there is this tab that I don't know what it is but its keeping me from properly aligning the header. Is this something someone has run into before?

I have, not a big deal just bend it out of the way.

I just did lol. Yeah I can look at it and be pretty sure it doesn't do much, as long as its long enough to catch.

I loosened the bolt and spun the tab out of the way. But bending it works too. Lol

Well after a case of beer, two tins of chew, and lot of cursing I finally got the headers on there. There is still some minor work to be done on them in the morning, tighten some bolts up and the studs won't fit through the pipe flanges to I need to bore them out a little with a dremel but I want to wait for some light.
